No previous workshop experience is required. You just need a genuine interest in cars, a good attitude and the willingness to listen, learn and get involved.

You will be employed by Central Coast Group Training (CCGT) and placed with the Host Employer for your day-to-day work. CCGT will support you throughout your apprenticeship while you complete a nationally recognised Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

As your skills grow, you’ll start learning how to:

  • Assist with oil, filter, tyre and fluid checks
  • Inspect vehicles and identify faults
  • Assist with mechanical repairs and replacement of components
  • Build skills in diagnostics and fault finding
  • Work across a range of vehicle makes and models
  • Safely use workshop tools and equipment
  • Keep the workshop clean, organised and safe
  • Work alongside qualified mechanics and technicians

You won’t be expected to know everything on day one. The goal is to listen, ask questions and keep building your confidence and practical skills.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Hands-on experience servicing and repairing real vehicles
  • Exposure to different vehicle makes and models
  • Training alongside experienced automotive technicians
  • Paid full-time employment
  • On-the-job training while completing your qualification
  • Regular mentoring, guidance and check-ins from CCGT
  • Support with your training and workplace development

After your apprenticeship, career pathways may include Qualified Light Vehicle Mechanic, Automotive Technician, Diagnostic Technician, Workshop Leading Hand, Service Advisor or Workshop Supervisor.

  • Have a genuine interest in cars and the automotive industry
  • Enjoy practical, hands-on work
  • Are reliable, hardworking and ready to learn
  • Listen well and ask questions when you’re unsure
  • Can work safely in a busy workshop
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Hold a minimum P1 licence & own reliable vehicle
  • Are willing to complete a criminal check and licence history check if required

School projects, work experience, sport, volunteering, mechanical hobbies or helping family with vehicles are all worth including in your application.

Pay

  • $23.56 per hour, or approximately $895.28 per week for Adult (21 and over)

Rates are before tax and based on 38 ordinary hours per week. Your exact rate will depend on the applicable apprenticeship classification and will be confirmed before an employment offer is made. Superannuation and any applicable overtime, penalty rates and allowances are paid in addition.
