Join a high-profile Commonwealth policy team responsible for delivering a nationally significant government initiative focused on Australia's future food security. Working within a dedicated taskforce environment, you will contribute to the development of a major national strategy that will help shape policy outcomes across industry, government and the broader community.This is a unique opportunity to work on a complex and highly visible policy project, engaging with stakeholders across government, industry groups, research organisations and community representatives to support the development of a long-term national framework.
Your new role
As an APS6 Senior Policy Officer, you will play a key role in supporting policy development, stakeholder engagement and project delivery activities. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to research, analysis, strategic advice, communications and governance functions that underpin the successful delivery of this national initiative.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the development and drafting of a major national strategy
  • Conducting research, analysis and environmental scanning to support policy development
  • Preparing briefing materials, ministerial correspondence, speeches and executive papers
  • Providing secretariat support for working groups, interdepartmental committees and stakeholder forums
  • Supporting engagement activities with government, industry and community stakeholders
  • Managing stakeholder databases, group mailboxes and engagement processes
  • Assisting with the development of communication products, including web content, social media and digital communications
  • Monitoring project milestones, deliverables and timelines, and contributing to project reporting activities
  • Supporting governance processes and quality assurance of key project documentation
  • Contributing to reports, dashboards, procurement documentation and executive-level materials

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Previous APS policy experience at the APS6 level or equivalent
  • Strong policy development, research and analytical skills
  • Excellent written communication skills, with experience preparing briefs, reports and correspondence
  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and relationship management experience
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Experience supporting governance forums, committees or working groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced project environment
  • A Baseline Security Clearance (or the ability to obtain and maintain one)

Experience within agriculture, food policy, regulatory, environment, sustainability or related policy areas will be highly regarded.
