This is a unique opportunity to drive governance, manage risk and influence organisational decision-making while ensuring the homes we provide remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.

About Us
Home in Place is one of Australia's largest not-for-profit housing providers, committed to delivering safe, affordable and sustainable housing solutions. We're proud to be recognised as an Employer of Choice, offering flexible work options, professional development opportunities and a supportive team culture.

About the Role
Based in our Newcastle office, this full-time position plays a critical role in leading asset-related compliance across Home in Place's growing property portfolio.
Working closely with Executive leaders, operational teams, contractors, consultants and regulators, you'll provide technical leadership and strategic oversight across a wide range of compliance programs. You'll establish strong governance frameworks, drive risk-based decision-making and ensure our compliance obligations are effectively managed, monitored and reported.

This role offers the opportunity to influence organisational outcomes, provide assurance to Executive and Board stakeholders, and build a planned, scalable and audit-ready compliance function that supports the delivery of safe homes and sustainable communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the asset compliance framework, obligations register, assurance programs and compliance reporting.
  • Oversee compliance programs including fire safety, AFSS, electrical testing, asbestos management, hazardous materials, backflow prevention and building inspections and other essential building and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance obligations are effectively planned, monitored and completed within required timeframes.
  • Manage regulatory matters, compliance risks, audit findings, incidents and remediation programs.
  • Coordinate engagement with councils, regulators, certifiers, insurers and technical specialists.
  • Provide specialist advice and assurance on contractor and consultant compliance requirements, including safety, licensing, documentation and quality standards, while working closely with the Contracts Manager who will lead broader contractor management.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation, records and compliance systems.
  • Prepare risk-based reports and recommendations for Executive and Board stakeholders.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, policies, procedures and compliance capability development across the organisation.

You Will Bring

  • Demonstrated experience in a senior compliance, property, asset management, building, fire safety, risk or related role.
  • Strong knowledge of property and building compliance obligations, including fire safety, electrical testing, asbestos management and certification requirements.
  • Experience developing governance, assurance, audit and risk management frameworks.
  • Proven ability to manage complex compliance programs and resolve regulatory or technical issues.
  • Strong contractor, stakeholder and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, reporting and communication skills, including experience working with senior leaders.
  • The ability to exercise sound judgement, manage competing priorities and drive outcomes.
  • Relevant qualifications in property, building, construction, engineering, compliance, risk, WHS or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Current Driver Licence and the ability to undertake travel and site inspections when required.

What We Offer

  • Flexible working arrangements, including a 9-day fortnight or monthly RDO.
  • Up to $15,900 tax-free salary packaging.
  • Paid Birthday Leave.
  • Discounted gym membership (Fitness Passport).
  • Free, confidential EAP services.
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • The opportunity to shape and lead a critical compliance function.
  • Meaningful work with a purpose-driven organisation making a positive difference in communities across Australia.

A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate based on experience, expertise and demonstrated capability.
