Barista

Sugoi Cafe is a Japanese-inspired café located in Cairns City, offering quality coffee, specialty beverages and a range of Japanese-inspired café dishes.

We are seeking an experienced Barista to join our team on a full-time basis.

Position: Barista

Location: Cairns City, QLD

Employment: Full-time, 38 hours per week

Salary: Annualised package + superannuation

Key Responsibilities

1. Prepare and serve espresso-based coffees and other hot and cold beverages to a consistently high standard;
2. Operate commercial espresso machines, grinders and other coffee-making equipment;
3. Adjust coffee grind, dosage and extraction to ensure consistent coffee quality;
4. Steam and texture milk for a variety of coffee beverages;
5. Prepare specialty beverages, including iced coffee, matcha and other café drinks;
6. Monitor the quality and presentation of beverages before service;
7. Maintain and clean coffee machines, grinders and bar equipment;
8. Monitor coffee beans, milk and other beverage supplies and assist with stock control;
9. Take customer orders and provide professional and friendly customer service;
10. Maintain a clean, hygienic and organised coffee preparation and service area;
11. Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements; and
12. Work collaboratively with front-of-house and kitchen staff to ensure efficient service.

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will have:

1. Relevant experience as a Barista in a café or similar hospitality environment;
2. Strong knowledge of espresso coffee preparation, extraction and milk texturing;
3. Experience operating commercial espresso machines and coffee grinders;
4. Ability to consistently prepare high-quality coffee in a busy environment;
5. Good knowledge of coffee preparation techniques and equipment maintenance;
6. Strong customer service and communication skills;
7. Good attention to detail and time-management skills;
8. Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team; and
9. Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays as required.
