We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Civil Design Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis.
About the Role
The Civil Design Engineer will be responsible for developing, preparing and coordinating civil engineering designs and technical documentation for residential construction and development projects. The role involves assessing site conditions, preparing civil design plans, coordinating drainage and earthworks requirements, and ensuring that engineering designs comply with applicable Australian Standards, building regulations and local council requirements.
The successful candidate will work closely with architects, structural engineers, builders, contractors and other project stakeholders to ensure the effective integration of civil engineering designs into residential construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and develop detailed civil engineering designs, drawings and specifications for residential construction and development projects.
- Design and coordinate site grading, earthworks, site levels and cut-and-fill calculations.
- Prepare stormwater drainage plans, surface water management designs and on-site drainage solutions.
- Develop civil engineering plans for site access, driveways, pavements and external infrastructure.
- Undertake engineering calculations and assessments to evaluate site conditions and determine appropriate civil design solutions.
- Review architectural, structural and other engineering drawings to ensure coordination and compatibility with civil engineering requirements.
- Prepare detailed technical drawings, engineering reports, design calculations and project documentation using AutoCAD and other relevant design software.
- Assess site constraints, topographical information, ground levels and drainage requirements when developing engineering designs.
- Ensure civil engineering designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, building codes, council regulations and other statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, project managers, builders and external consultants throughout the design and construction process.
- Liaise with local councils, certifiers and relevant authorities regarding civil engineering plans, technical requirements and development approvals.
- Review construction drawings and provide technical advice to resolve civil engineering design issues.
- Conduct site inspections, where required, to assess site conditions and verify the implementation of approved engineering designs.
- Identify potential design and construction issues and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
- Monitor design progress and coordinate engineering documentation to meet project deadlines and construction requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of engineering calculations, drawings, design revisions and project documentation.
Skills and Qualifications
The successful applicant must possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Demonstrated experience in civil engineering design, preferably within residential construction, building or land development.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, site development, earthworks and stormwater drainage design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant civil engineering design software.
- Ability to interpret and prepare civil, architectural and structural engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, National Construction Code and local council engineering requirements.
- Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple project stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver accurate engineering documentation within project timelines.
