Responsibilities of our Civil Engineer will include:

  • Assessing site conditions and soil reactivity and determining or confirming site classification in line with AS 2870 to inform footing and slab requirements.
  • Preparing and reviewing civil designs for residential sites, including earthworks, cut and fill, finished floor and site levels, retaining walls, and stormwater drainage and soak well systems.
  • Planning and coordinating sewer, water, power and stormwater service connections, and liaising with the Water Corporation, Western Power and other service authorities.
  • Conferring with clients, architects, building designers, structural engineers and surveyors to establish project specifications and confirm that designs can be built.
  • Determining construction methods, materials and quality standards for civil and foundation works, including footings, slabs, retaining structures and drainage.
  • Preparing quantity take-offs, cost estimates and budgets for site and civil works, and assessing variations and their cost impact.
  • Assessing the feasibility and soundness of proposed builds, including sloping or difficult sites, and the impact of renovations and extensions on existing structures and drainage.
  • Preparing construction programs and work schedules for site preparation, earthworks, retaining and slab stages, and monitoring progress against them.
  • Organising and directing subcontractors on site, including earthmoving, retaining wall, concreting and plumbing contractors, and coordinating the delivery of materials, plant and equipment.
  • Conducting site inspections at key stages, including set-out, compaction, footing and pre-pour inspections, so that works comply with plans, specifications, the National Construction Code and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Preparing engineering documentation to support building permit applications, and liaising with local governments and certifiers on approval requirements.
  • Investigating site and structural issues such as settlement, cracking, drainage failures and water ingress, and recommending and overseeing remedial works.
  • Establishing control systems for site safety and environmental protection, including erosion and sediment control, dust management and dewatering where required.
  • Maintaining quality assurance records, test results, inspection reports and as-constructed documentation.
  • Adhering to all company safety policies and relevant WHS requirements on construction sites and promoting a safe working environment for staff and subcontractors.

To be successfully considered for the role, you:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Civil Engineering.
  • Have a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience working as a Civil Engineer, ideally including residential construction or land development projects.
  • Have sound working knowledge of the National Construction Code and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Are confident interpreting survey data, geotechnical reports, engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Have experience preparing cost estimates and construction programs and managing subcontractors on site.
  • Are proficient in AutoCAD, 12d, Civil 3D or similar design software.
  • Have strong communication skills and can build effective working relationships with clients, consultants, authorities and trades.
  • Are organised, solution-focused and committed to quality outcomes.
