About the role
We're looking for a Civil Engineering Technician to support the delivery of concrete remediation projects from initial defect investigation through to completed repair or full slab replacement. The role is heavily site-based, working alongside project managers, engineers and repair crews on industrial, commercial and infrastructure concrete.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect and assess concrete defects spalling, delamination, cracking, joint failure, corrosion of reinforcement and record findings with photos, measurements and defect mapping
- Carry out and coordinate concrete testing: hammer/sounding surveys, core sampling, cover meter and half-cell potential readings, moisture and flatness testing
- Prepare repair scopes, quantities and sketches for patch repairs, joint reinstatement, overlays, grinding/polishing and full slab removal and replacement
- Supervise repair works on site: substrate preparation, saw-cutting and breakout, reinforcement treatment, formwork, placement of repair mortars, grouts, epoxies and structural concrete
- Verify materials, batching, curing and finishing against specification; monitor set times, strength gain and joint sealing
- Maintain daily site records, ITPs, hold points, test results and as-built documentation
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors and suppliers on site access, staging and program
- Ensure all works comply with relevant Australian Standards, project specifications and WHS requirements
Skills and experience
- Qualification in civil engineering, construction or a related trade/technical discipline (Cert IV, Diploma or Associate Degree), or equivalent site experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with concrete repair and replacement methods and materials
- Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (AS 3600, AS 1379, AS 3610) and concrete testing procedures
- Competent with measurement, levels, survey equipment and basic drafting/CAD
- Strong written records and reporting; comfortable with Microsoft Office and site management software
- Construction Induction (White Card); driver's licence essential
- EWP, forklift, confined space or traffic control tickets highly regarded
- Willingness to travel to sites and work occasional night or weekend shifts to suit client operations.
