An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Construction Lawyer to join a highly regarded and growing legal practice in Melbourne.

Working alongside experienced construction-law specialists, you will advise a diverse client base that includes builders, developers, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, property owners and other construction-industry participants.

The position offers exposure to a broad range of front-end and back-end construction matters, with opportunities to manage files, work directly with clients and continue developing your career within a supportive team.

The Role

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction contracts, consultancy agreements and subcontractor agreements.
  • Advising on contract administration, variations, extensions of time, delay claims and contractual notices.
  • Advising on Security of Payment legislation, payment claims, payment schedules and adjudication applications.
  • Managing building and construction disputes.
  • Advising on defective-work, statutory warranty and insurance claims.
  • Preparing pleadings, affidavits, witness statements, submissions and court or tribunal documents.
  • Briefing experts and counsel.
  • Representing clients in negotiations, mediations and settlement conferences.
  • Appearing in VCAT and assisting with matters before Victorian courts.
  • Managing files and maintaining direct relationships with clients.

About You

To be considered, you will have:

  • A minimum of two years' post-admission experience in building and construction law.
  • Experience in construction disputes, front-end construction matters or a combination of both.
  • Knowledge of the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 (Vic) and Security of Payment legislation.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and legal research skills.
  • The ability to manage matters with an appropriate level of autonomy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A practical, commercially focused approach to client advice.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Experience acting for builders, developers, contractors, subcontractors or property owners will be highly regarded.
