As one of Australia's most visited cultural institutions, the organisation is responsible for the management, preservation and operation of significant public assets, major exhibitions, public spaces and large-scale capital works projects that support millions of visitors each year.An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Construction Safety Officer to support the planning, implementation and monitoring of health, safety and wellbeing initiatives across a range of construction and capital works projects.
About the RoleYou will provide expert advice and support to ensure construction activities are undertaken safely, compliantly and in accordance with legislative requirements, industry standards and organisational policies. You will work closely with contractors, project managers and key stakeholders to drive a proactive safety culture and promote best-practice safety outcomes across multiple project sites.
Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and promote compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS/OHS) legislation, regulations and organisational policies.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and safety observations across active construction projects.
• Identify hazards, assess risks and implement corrective actions to minimise workplace incidents.
• Support contractors and project teams in maintaining safe work practices and meeting compliance requirements.
• Investigate incidents, near misses and safety concerns, preparing reports and recommendations for improvement.
• Review and monitor Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), risk assessments and construction safety documentation.
• Facilitate toolbox talks, safety briefings and awareness initiatives.
• Provide expert safety advice to project delivery teams and key stakeholders.
• Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to safety management plans.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of safety systems, procedures and reporting frameworks.

Key Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated experience in a Construction Safety Officer, Safety Advisor or similar health and safety role within construction, infrastructure or capital works environments.
• Strong knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation, regulations and industry best practice.
• Experience conducting site inspections, safety audits and incident investigations.
• Proven ability to identify and manage workplace risks within live construction environments.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence positive safety outcomes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and safety documentation.
• Ability to work collaboratively with contractors, consultants and project teams.
• Relevant tertiary qualification and/or vocational qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety, Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
• Current Construction Industry White Card.
• Relevant safety certifications, including Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent) will be highly regarded.
