The Opportunity

Join our team in Stapylton, QLD, as a Project Accountant supporting the RAMC contract for Queensland Transport. You will oversee the project’s financial performance, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards and controls, and timely delivery of financial information to support decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • People Leadership & Work Allocation: Lead, support and develop finance administrators, allocating work to ensure timely completion of project and month-end activities.
  • Financial Management & Reporting: Monitor project budgets, costs, billing, profitability and variances; prepare and review financial reports, analysis and commentary, escalating issues as required.
  • Accounting & Compliance: Prepare and review journals, accruals and reconciliations; maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, controls and audit requirements.
  • Project & Cost Management: Establish and maintain project structures, review cost allocations, and approve transfers and corrections.
  • Billing, WIP & Cash Management: Ensure accurate and timely billing, approvals and collections, while monitoring WIP, cash flow and aged debtors against forecasts.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Prepare budget and forecast inputs, assumptions and analysis in collaboration with Finance Partners and project stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement & Standardisation: Drive continuous improvement, strengthen financial processes and controls, and standardise accounting practices across projects through the Centre of Excellence (COE).
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with clients, project teams, auditors and compliance bodies, providing financial guidance and supporting effective decision-making.

About You

We’re looking for a commercially focused accounting professional to partner with project teams, Finance Partners, engineers and management to support the successful financial delivery of a major infrastructure contract.

You’ll combine strong technical accounting skills with practical project and commercial understanding. You’ll be confident analysing data, influencing stakeholders, improving processes and translating financial performance into actionable insights.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong accounting expertise, including standards, GL processes, reconciliations and project accounting.
  • CA/CPA qualified or currently working towards qualification.
  • Strong commercial and project focus, with an understanding of profitability, margins, overheads and cost structures.
  • Ability to turn financial data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Experience with ERP/financial systems, preferably SAP; SAP Ariba desirable.
  • Power BI experience advantageous; Power Query and Power Apps highly regarded.
  • Proven commitment to process improvement, efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and relationship-building skills across project, engineering and operational teams.
  • Experience in a Centre of Excellence or transactional finance environment.
  • Proactive, adaptable and collaborative, with an agile, non-siloed approach.
  • Current driver’s licence and access to a vehicle due to limited public transport.
