Job description

Our client is a specialist Water Engineering OEM and consultancy. They develop engineered products and provide project consulting and services to tier-one Mining, Energy and Utility clients.

As a result of continued growth we are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Design & Project Engineer to help build on that position. The work covers the full range of water packages: pumping, dewatering, hydrogeology, skid packages and automation technologies. The consulting pipeline is full, and the Engineering and R&D Division is growing.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Deliver concept and detailed designs for dewatering and water infrastructure: pipelines (including HDPE), pump stations, Borefields, standpipes and skid-mounted packages.
  • Prepare and check design calculations and documents: hydraulic calculations, mechanical and electrical schematics, technical memos, material take-offs, scopes of work, equipment registers and design risk assessments.
  • Manage design deliverables, drawings and documentation for each project.
  • Run the design schedule from issued-for-review through HAZOP and risk assessment to issued-for-construction.
  • Coordinate across disciplines: mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control, structural, civil and earthworks.
  • Prepare equipment data sheets, engage vendors, evaluate tender submissions and recommend purchases (pumps and other equipment).
  • Act as the technical point of contact for clients, and present designs to engineering, mine planning, water planning, environment and operations stakeholders.
  • Support construction and commissioning with technical queries, design changes and site visits as needed.

The candidate:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical).
  • About 5–8 years of design experience, mostly in an engineering consultancy or a design role.
  • Proven detailed design of pumping systems for water, dewatering, wastewater or mining applications.
  • Experience taking designs through IFR, HAZOP/risk assessment.
