Corrections Education Centre is a key portfolio of Bendigo Kangan Institute (BKI), delivering high-quality education programs to people in custody in partnership with Corrections Victoria and private prison operators. Through strong collaboration with multiple custodial sites, we play a vital role in supporting rehabilitation by building skills, confidence and meaningful pathways for reintegration into the community.  

Learning delivery is adapted to the custodial context, with paper-based delivery and controlled classroom settings. Our educators work directly with individuals, often navigating diverse learning needs. Success in this environment requires professionals who are confident in demonstrating emotional intelligence and resilience, bring sound judgement and a strong commitment to professional conduct.  

About the Role: 

Location: Melbourne Remand Centre and Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC), onsite 
Role Type: Sessional (Casual role), flexible with days (Tuesdays not required) 
Remuneration:  starting at $ 91.42 per hour (dependent on qualifications) 

We are looking for a Teacher Horticulture(casual role) to deliver high-quality vocational education and training across horticulture programs, supporting learners to develop practical, job-ready skills aligned to industry standards. This role involves classroom and practical delivery, assessment, student support, and contribution to continuous improvement within a corrections education setting. 

You will develop and deliver engaging, customised learning experiences across Certificate II in Horticulture, supporting learners to build confidence, competence and literacy and numeracy skills. You will also maintain accurate student records, assessments and compliance documentation in line with national VET quality standards and BKI policies. 

We are excited about you because you have: 

  • Certificate II in Horticulture or another relevant horticulture-related industry qualification
  • Completed Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Relevant experience delivering or supporting horticulture training
  • Experience delivering training in adult education or vocational settings
  • Effective communication skills for working in correctional settings
  • Computer proficiency
  • Compliance paperwork management
  • Ability to teach independently
  • Commitment to safety, inclusion, and learner success
