KEY POINTS WE FOUND
  • Provide strategic leadership across commissioning and operational readiness activities.
  • Lead the commissioning strategy and execution for major mining projects.
  • Ensure effective transition from construction to operations.

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Director to provide strategic leadership across commissioning, completions, operational readiness and handover activities for this complex, multi-project mining program.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who understands what it takes to transition major mining assets safely and successfully from construction through commissioning and into operations.

Join Worley's team delivering EPCM services for one of Australia's largest copper growth programs with a leading global mining company. Spanning major underground mine expansions and processing infrastructure projects, this portfolio will help unlock future copper supply while offering the opportunity to work alongside a collaborative team that values belonging, innovation, and shared success.

What you'll do

As Commissioning Director, you will provide leadership and direction for the commissioning strategy and execution across the program, working closely with project delivery, construction, engineering, customer and operational teams.

  • Lead the overall commissioning and completions strategy across major mining and minerals processing facilities.
  • Establish the commissioning execution philosophy, systems, processes and governance required to support safe and efficient delivery.
  • Provide leadership across pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, performance testing, operational readiness and handover.
  • Ensure commissioning requirements are embedded early into engineering, procurement and construction planning.
  • Drive systemisation and the transition from construction completion through to commissioning and final handover.
  • Lead planning and coordination of complex commissioning interfaces across underground mining infrastructure, materials handling, crushing, conveying, utilities and processing facilities.
  • Establish clear priorities, sequencing and commissioning execution plans aligned with the overall project schedule.
  • Work closely with Construction, Engineering and Project leadership to identify constraints and ensure systems are delivered in a commissionable state.
  • Provide leadership around energisation, isolations, permits, SIMOPS and other high-risk commissioning activities.
  • Partner closely with the customer and operations teams to ensure effective operational readiness and a structured transition into operations.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing commissioning organisation capable of supporting multiple work fronts and project packages.
  • Provide senior-level oversight of commissioning contractors, vendors and specialist service providers.
  • Identify key commissioning risks, interfaces and schedule constraints and drive early resolution.
  • Champion a strong safety culture throughout commissioning and start-up.

About You

  • Extensive commissioning and start-up experience on large-scale mining and minerals projects.
  • Demonstrated mining industry experience is preferred.
  • Significant leadership experience at Commissioning Manager, Commissioning Director or equivalent level on major capital projects.
  • Strong experience across mining infrastructure and mineral processing environments, ideally encompassing underground infrastructure, materials handling, crushing, conveying and concentrator/process plant systems.
  • Experience delivering projects through EPCM, EPC or similarly complex project delivery environments.
  • Strong knowledge of completions, systemisation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, performance testing and handover.
  • Experience managing complex interfaces between engineering, construction, commissioning and operations.
  • A strong understanding of operational readiness and the transition of major projects into operating assets.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, multidisciplinary commissioning teams and contractor organisations.
  • Strong stakeholder-management skills and the confidence to engage effectively with senior project and customer leadership.
  • A practical, delivery-focused approach with the ability to anticipate commissioning challenges well before they reach site.

This is an opportunity to play a key leadership role in the delivery of an exciting long-term copper growth program and help shape how major new mining infrastructure moves from project execution into safe, successful operations.
