Position: Fire Alarm Technician

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $93,900 plus superannuation per annum

Location: Goonellabah NSW 2480

Our client is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Technician to join their team located in Goonellabah, New South Wales.

This role requires you to ensure that all fire detection alarm systems and association equipment are functioning correctly and comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Installation and Rectification of Electronic Fire Detection and Alarm Systems

a) Install and program electronic fire detection and alarm equipment at client sites, including fire alarm panels, control systems, field devices and associated components (as applicable).

b) Apply knowledge of electrical, electronic and mechanical principals in installing and maintaining electronic fire detection and alarm systems. Including interpreting electronic schematics, wiring diagrams and technical specifications.

c) Carry out rectification works on existing electronic fire detection and alarm systems identified during inspection, routine servicing, or reported faults.

d) Complete work in accordance with applicable requirements, manufacturer instructions and site procedures.

Inspection, Routine Testing and Preventative Maintenance

a) Conduct scheduled inspections and routine testing of electronic fire detection and alarm systems and associated devices to confirm operational readiness.

b) Test communication pathways between fire alarm panels, EWIS systems and monitoring services.

c) Perform preventative maintenance activities to maintain system performance and reduce likelihood of faults.

d) Check system condition and operational status and record results as required.

Fault-Finding and Repairs.

a) Diagnose faults in electronic fire detection and alarm systems and equipment, including identifying defective components or issues impacting system performance.

b) Undertake repairs and restore system functionality in a timely manner. Including adjusting, repairing and replacing worn and defective parts, wiring, equipment and instruments.

c) Re-test systems following repairs/rectification to confirm correct operation.

Compliance Obligations

a) Ensure all fire detection and alarm systems and outcomes of works are compliant with applicable fire safety requirements and site obligations including Local, State and Federal Regulations.

Documentation and Reporting

a) Maintain accurate records of inspection, testing, maintenance and repairs.

b) Complete service reports in accordance with company requirements.

Customer Service and Site Communication

a) Provide excellent customer service by addressing client concerns and providing recommendations for fire safety improvements relevant to electronic fire detection alarm systems.

b) Communicate job outcomes, defects identified and required follow-up works to clients and internal stakeholders within required timeframes.

Training

a) Educate clients and staff (where applicable) on correct operating procedures and maintenance of fire protection systems relevant to electronic alarm systems.

Work Health and Safety

a) Comply with WHS requirements including PPE and SWMS.

b) Maintain site inductions as required and report safety hazards/incidents in accordance with company procedures.

Requirements:

  1. AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in relevant field
  2. At least three (3) years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed
  3. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in fire protection technology, especially in electronic fire detection systems.
  4. White Card.
  5. Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
  6. Knowledge of Local, State and Federal Fire Safety Regulations.
  7. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  8. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.
  2. Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
  3. Ability to work in various weather conditions.

Work Environment

  1. This position may require working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  2. Travel to client sites may be required.
