About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Education Manager - Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) to join the Centre for Foundational Studies within Vocational Education and Training (VET).

Reporting to the Associate Director - Centre for Foundational Studies, you will provide educational leadership and operational management for Swinburne’s delivery of the Adult Migrant English Program. You will lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, learner-centred English language and settlement-focused programs that respond to the diverse needs of eligible migrants and humanitarian entrants. You will also be responsible for the effective planning, delivery, monitoring and continuous improvement of AMEP provision, and ensure that program delivery meets contractual, regulatory and quality requirements while achieving agreed performance targets and providing positive educational and settlement outcomes for clients.

As the Education Manager, you will provide strong leadership to teaching and professional staff and champion contemporary, inclusive and innovative approaches to English language teaching, assessment and learner support. You will work collaboratively across Swinburne and build productive relationships with government, community organisations, settlement services, employers and other stakeholders to strengthen pathways and opportunities for AMEP clients.

This role will contribute to the broader strategic objectives of the Centre for Foundational Studies, supporting an integrated approach to foundation skills, English language development, learner pathways and community engagement. This is an opportunity for an accomplished educational leader to shape the delivery and future direction of AMEP at Swinburne and make a meaningful contribution to the educational, employment and settlement outcomes of culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Significant experience and sound knowledge of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP), English as an Additional Language (EAL), adult education and/or the broader vocational education and training sector.
  • Demonstrated understanding of AMEP program requirements, contractual obligations, performance expectations and the needs of migrant and humanitarian entrant cohorts.
  • A demonstrated track record in motivating, leading and managing high-performing, multidisciplinary teams, including teachers and professional staff working with culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
  • Demonstrated experience in educational leadership, including the design, delivery, monitoring and continuous improvement of high-quality English language, foundation skills or vocational education programs.
  • Demonstrated high-level planning, organisational, financial and complex problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage program performance, resources, budgets and operational priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to use program data and performance information to monitor outcomes, identify areas for improvement and inform operational and educational decision-making.
  • A proven ability to negotiate, collaborate and foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, community organisations, settlement services, industry, education providers and professional networks.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing partnerships and engagement strategies that support learner participation, retention, progression, settlement and pathways to further education, training and employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement and monitor programs within relevant contractual, regulatory and quality assurance frameworks, including applicable VET standards and government-funded program requirements.
  • A demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and culturally responsive practice, with an understanding of the barriers that may be experienced by migrant, refugee and humanitarian entrant learners.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead change, innovation and continuous improvement, including the development of flexible and responsive delivery models that meet changing learner and community needs.

Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary degree, management qualification or equivalent combination of relevant qualifications and significant professional experience.
  • An AQF Level 5 qualification or above in Vocational Education, or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated professional experience in TESOL, EAL, adult education, foundation skills or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
