An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Crane Operator to join the BMS Heavy Cranes team.

This is a specialist position and is suited to an experienced heavy-lift crane operator with demonstrated practical experience operating the Liebherr LG1750, including SX and SX3 configurations and associated Superlift systems (Vario-Tray) or similar machine

We are specifically seeking an operator who can demonstrate proven, hands-on experience operating the LG1750 and Superlift Tray system in demanding heavy-lift environments or similar machine.

Your Role

The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient and professional unsupervised operation of the Liebherr LG1750 and associated equipment or similar.

The successful candidate will have extensive practical knowledge of the LG1750, its configurations, operating systems and associated Superlift equipment.

You will be expected to confidently operate the crane unsupervised throughout the full lifting cycle and work closely with the heavy-lift crew during assembly, rigging, Superlift installation, mobilisation, lifting operations and de-rigging.

This is a hands-on operational role where technical competence, safe operation, equipment knowledge and attention to detail are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate the Liebherr LG1750 in SX and SX3 configurations.
  • Operate the LG1750 Superlift system, including proven experience with Superlift Tray operation.
  • Independently operate the crane and associated systems without direct supervision.
  • Operate the LG1750 in accordance with approved lift plans, OEM requirements and BMS Heavy Cranes procedures.
  • Participate in and, where required, lead the assembly, rigging, Superlift installation, mobilisation and de-rigging of the LG1750.
  • Correctly configure and prepare the crane for each lifting operation.
  • Understand and operate the LG1750 across varying boom, ballast, Superlift and lifting configurations.
  • Monitor crane operating parameters and identify abnormal operating conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with doggers, riggers, supervisors and other lifting personnel.
  • Provide practical guidance to less experienced LG1750 personnel where required.
  • Identify and report operational, safety or equipment issues before they impact the lifting operation.
  • Maintain the crane, Superlift equipment, attachments and associated equipment to a high operational standard.
  • Assist with crane mobilisation and demobilisation between projects.
  • Complete required operational documentation, checklists, timesheets and daily reports.
  • Comply with all BMS Heavy Cranes and client HSE-Q requirements.
  • Represent BMS Heavy Cranes professionally and demonstrate the company's values at all times.

LG1750 Technical Requirements

The successful candidate must have demonstrated practical experience with:

  • Liebherr LG1750 operation.
  • Superlift Tray operation – mandatory.
  • SX and/or SX3 crane configurations.
  • Superlift configuration and operation.
  • Crane ballast and counterweight configurations.
  • Boom assembly and configuration.
  • Main boom and luffing jib operations.
  • Crane mobilisation and demobilisation.
  • LG1750 assembly and de-rigging.
  • Heavy-lift operations in complex site environments.
  • Working to detailed lift plans and crane configuration requirements.
  • Understanding crane operating limits, load charts and configuration parameters.

Applicants without demonstrated LG1750 or equivalent, and Superlift Tray operating experience will not be considered for this specialist position.

Operational Responsibilities

The LG1750 Crane Operator will be expected to:

  • Operate the LG1750 unsupervised and with a high level of confidence and competence.
  • Take responsibility for the safe operation of the crane during assigned lifting activities.
  • Confirm crane configuration and operating parameters prior to commencing lifts.
  • Understand the relationship between crane configuration, radius, capacity, ballast, Superlift and operating conditions.
  • Monitor ground conditions, weather, crane stability and other operational factors affecting safe lifting.
  • Follow approved lift plans and immediately communicate any deviation or concern.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the lifting team.
  • Stop work where conditions are unsafe or outside the approved lifting methodology.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving operational issues.
  • Maintain a high standard of crane operation throughout the project.
  • Support less experienced personnel through practical guidance and knowledge sharing.

HSE-Q Responsibilities

Safety is a core requirement of this position.

The LG1750 Crane Operator will:

  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness throughout all operations.
  • Operate the crane within OEM specifications, approved lift plans and BMS Heavy Cranes procedures.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, pre-starts, lift planning and risk assessments.
  • Complete required pre-lift and equipment inspection documentation.
  • Report hazards, incidents, near misses and equipment defects.
  • Identify and communicate unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Stop work where there is a risk to personnel, equipment or the lifting operation.
  • Lead by example in relation to PPE, safe work practices and site behaviour.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and professional work environment.

Equipment Responsibilities

The LG1750 Crane Operator will take an active role in maintaining the crane and associated equipment, including:

  • Daily operational and pre-start inspections.
  • Monitoring oil levels, fluids and general equipment condition.
  • Checking crane systems and reporting defects or abnormalities.
  • Maintaining the crane cab, machinery and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Correctly handling and caring for Superlift equipment, lifting equipment, attachments, ballast and associated components.
  • Identifying maintenance requirements and communicating them to the appropriate BMS personnel.
  • Assisting maintenance personnel with fault identification and access to the crane where required.

Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive and proven experience operating a Liebherr LG1750.
  • Proven practical experience operating the LG1750 Superlift Tray – mandatory.
  • Demonstrated experience operating SX and/or SX3 configurations.
  • Demonstrated experience with Superlift systems and associated equipment.
  • Experience operating heavy-lift cranes in wind farm, renewables, civil infrastructure or similar environments.
  • Valid Open Crane High Risk Work Licence (HRWL).
  • Strong understanding of LG1750 crane configuration, load charts and operating limitations.
  • Ability to read and understand lift plans and crane configuration information.
  • Valid Driver's Licence – C, with HR or HC preferred.
  • Wheel Loader and Forklift Licence preferred.
  • GWO training desirable.
  • Strong commitment to HSE and safe lifting practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an experienced heavy-lift team.
  • Reliable, professional and positive approach to work.
  • Ability to work on a project-to-project basis across Australia and the APAC region.
