KEY POINTS WE FOUND
  • Lead role in applying new federal political donation and spending laws.
  • Independently manage complex compliance assessments and reviews.
  • Guide and develop junior staff while overseeing compliance processes.

Take a lead role in applying new federal political donation and spending laws, independently managing complex compliance assessments.

An independent Commonwealth statutory agency with a national regulatory remit.

Its regulatory area administers the federal framework that requires political participants to disclose their financial activity, and that governs the public funding paid to eligible candidates and parties.

Its regulatory functions are expanding significantly.

Reforms to federal political funding and disclosure laws, including new donation and expenditure caps and faster disclosure timeframes, begin from 1 January 2027, with transitional rules in place since 1 July 2026.

The Opportunity

Multiple APS6 compliance roles are available as the agency grows its compliance team ahead of these reforms.

The team coordinates political financial disclosure and plans and delivers compliance reviews, producing work that must be transparent, defensible and able to withstand external scrutiny.

You will work under limited direction, with real autonomy over your own review and assessment work.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Join a regulatory function while it expands, and build experience in a new legislative scheme from day one
  • Take ownership of complex compliance assessments rather than processing routine transactions
  • Review the financial activity of a wide range of regulated entities, from parties and candidates to third parties
  • Apply a risk-based approach to identifying non-compliance, including risks of foreign influence through financial contributions
  • Guide and develop junior staff, building leadership experience at APS6 level

The Role

As an APS6 Regulation Officer in the compliance team, you will review and assess financial disclosure and election funding matters across the electoral cycle.

You’ll be:

  • Independently reviewing financial disclosure returns from registered political parties, associated entities, significant third parties, third parties and nominated entities
  • Assessing claims for election funding, including complex compliance assessments under the electoral legislation
  • Overseeing and coordinating the accurate processing and payment of election funding to eligible parties and candidates in line with legislative and procedural requirements
  • Leading the collection and analysis of information from diverse sources to support a risk-based approach to identifying and investigating potential non-compliance, including risks of foreign influence through financial contributions
  • Contributing to education and advice that helps entities with disclosure obligations comply voluntarily
  • Providing guidance and support to junior staff to build team capability and maintain quality outcomes

The Ideal Person

You are curious, detail-oriented and comfortable working through legislation to reach a decision you can defend.

You like being trusted to run your own work, and you know when to raise a risk with the team.

You will bring the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in compliance, regulatory, audit or assurance work, ideally in a legislative environment
  • The ability to review complex financial information and spot inconsistencies, gaps and risk
  • Sound judgement when applying legislation and procedures, and the ability to document your reasoning clearly
  • Strong written communication and the confidence to explain requirements to external stakeholders
  • Experience working under limited direction and managing competing priorities

It’s also desirable if you have:

  • Qualifications or work experience in accounting, commerce, finance or a related field
  • Experience supervising, mentoring or quality-checking the work of junior staff

Salary / Rate

  • $99k – $111k + 15.4% Super
