Summary

Our client Arrow Transport is a leading privately owned Australian wharf cartage, transport and warehousing provider operating a substantial national fleet. Our client is seeking to add a Truck Driver to its Townsville operations, supporting reliable port and freight movements while maintaining high standards of safety, communication and service across its specialist logistics activities and growing transport network.

The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Operate Heavy Rigid, Heavy Combination and Multi Combination vehicles safely and professionally across assigned transport routes.

• Transport freight and containerised cargo between port, depot, warehouse and customer locations as required.

• Conduct regular pre-start and vehicle safety inspections and report identified mechanical or operational issues.

• Manoeuvre heavy vehicles safely into designated positions for loading, unloading and delivery activities.

• Monitor vehicle loads and ensure freight remains appropriately positioned, secured and protected during transportation.

• Estimate and monitor load weights to comply with vehicle mass limits and safe weight distribution requirements.

• Verify transport documentation, delivery details and freight information before commencing and completing assigned deliveries.

• Inspect the condition of transported goods and obtain appropriate confirmation or certification upon successful delivery.

• Coordinate with dispatch, depot and logistics personnel to complete scheduled freight movements efficiently.

• Follow workplace health and safety procedures when operating vehicles and undertaking loading or unloading activities.

• Communicate professionally with customers, clients, warehouse personnel, dispatch teams and other transport stakeholders.

• Maintain accurate records relating to vehicle checks, transport movements, deliveries and identified safety issues.

• Undertake wharf cartage and port-related transport activities in accordance with operational and safety requirements.

• Maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, safe and professional condition throughout daily operations.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:

• Minimum 12 months' recent, directly relevant experience operating heavy vehicles in the transport or logistics industry is mandatory.

• Current Australian Heavy Combination or Multi Combination driver licence appropriate to the heavy vehicles being operated.

• Demonstrated knowledge of road safety, heavy vehicle compliance, load security and workplace health and safety requirements.

• Proven ability to conduct vehicle inspections, identify safety concerns and report mechanical issues promptly and accurately.

• Strong route planning, navigation and time management skills with the ability to maintain reliable delivery schedules.

• Demonstrated experience handling freight safely, including awareness of load positioning, weight distribution and securement requirements.

• Strong communication and customer service skills when dealing with clients, dispatch personnel and other transport stakeholders.

• Ability to work independently, remain punctual and reliable, and maintain professional standards in demanding transport environments.
