Lead Estimator – Wind Farms & Civil Balance of Plant

Brisbane or Melbourne | Permanent

  • Lead civil estimating for wind farms, BESS and substations

  • Brisbane or Melbourne location

  • Earthworks, drainage, pavements and subcontractor packages

Aequalis Consulting is partnering with an established Australian infrastructure contractor to appoint a Lead Estimator within its renewable energy business.

The position will lead the estimating of civil Balance of Plant works across wind farms and associated energy infrastructure, including BESS developments and substations.

This is a hands-on estimating role for someone who understands how civil projects are priced and delivered. The scope includes bulk and detailed earthworks, drainage, pavements, access roads, foundations and subcontractor packages.

You may have developed your career as an estimator, or you may be a Civil Engineer who has moved successfully into pre-contracts and estimating. What matters is your ability to understand the complete civil scope, interrogate risk and produce a commercially sound submission.

The role

You will:

  • Lead estimates for civil Balance of Plant packages across renewable energy projects.

  • Review drawings, specifications, geotechnical information and tender documentation.

  • Develop estimates covering earthworks, drainage, roads, pavements, foundations and associated civil works.

  • Scope subcontractor and supplier packages and assess market submissions.

  • Prepare quantities, rates, methodologies and tender programs.

  • Identify delivery risks, exclusions, qualifications and commercial opportunities.

  • Work with engineering, construction, commercial and project leadership.

  • Contribute to tender strategy, reviews and client clarifications.

  • Support the handover of successful tenders into project delivery.

Your background

You will bring:

  • Strong estimating experience in civil infrastructure, major projects or renewable energy construction.

  • A sound understanding of earthworks, drainage, pavements and subcontracted civil packages.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions.

  • The ability to read technical documentation and understand construction methodology.

  • Commercial judgement and confidence challenging assumptions.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience using recognised estimating software.

Experience across wind farms, BESS, substations or other energy infrastructure will be highly regarded. Strong civil estimators from adjacent infrastructure sectors are also encouraged to apply.

Why consider it?

  • A genuine lead role within a growing renewable energy business.

  • Direct involvement in significant wind and energy infrastructure tenders.

  • A broad civil scope that uses both technical and commercial judgement.

  • The flexibility to be based in Brisbane or Melbourne.

  • The opportunity to help shape estimating practices as the project pipeline develops.
