The Opportunity

Thomas More College is seeking a dynamic and contemporary educational leader to join its Executive Leadership Team as Deputy Principal in 2027.

With more than 1,200 students, approximately 170 staff and planned growth towards 1,500 students, Thomas More College offers something distinctive, the opportunity to provide holistic leadership within a large, diverse and increasingly dynamic secondary school environment.

Working closely with the Principal and other senior leaders, the Deputy Principal will share responsibility for the leadership and daily operation of the College while helping shape the systems, structures and practices required for its continued growth and progression.

At the heart of the position is the responsibility to support excellent teaching and learning within a contemporary faith-centred environment and to work collaboratively with senior leaders to develop the school’s vision and mission and create structures that enable staff and students to thrive.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide visible, collaborative leadership across the daily operations and strategic priorities of a large and dynamic secondary school.
  • Lead high-quality teaching and learning, using evidence and data to support improvement, student achievement and high aspirations for learning.
  • Lead improvement, innovation and change, developing and implementing evidence-based plans within a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Foster an inclusive College community that recognises cultural diversity and builds strong partnerships with students, families, carers and the wider community.
  • Support the development of staff and emerging leaders through professional learning, coaching, mentoring and opportunities to grow leadership capability.
  • Promote and strengthen the Catholic identity of the College, expressing Catholic faith in a contemporary and accessible way.

About You

This opportunity will suit either an experienced school leader seeking their next challenge, or an aspirational leader ready to step into a broader role within a large and complex school environment.

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is energised by the scale and complexity of a large secondary school and can balance strategic leadership with effective day-to-day operations.
  • Is an accomplished educational leader with a strong understanding of contemporary, inclusive teaching and learning and a commitment to improving outcomes for every student.
  • Has the organisational capability to develop effective systems and structures, plan strategically, solve problems, prioritise competing demands and connect operational decisions to broader school improvement.
  • Values the richness of a multicultural community and can lead approaches that respond to the diverse learning needs and backgrounds of students.
  • Builds trust and brings people with them, with highly developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Brings contemporary, faith-filled Catholic leadership and can articulate their Catholic faith in an accessible and authentic way.

Why Us?

This is an opportunity to lead big.

Thomas More College is a large and growing secondary school community with more than 1,200 students, approximately 170 staff and ambitious plans for future growth. Its multicultural community encompasses students and families from around 62 different cultural backgrounds, creating both a distinctive character and an important focus on inclusion and support for students with English as an Additional Language or Dialect.

For the right leader, the scale is part of the attraction. You will have the opportunity to influence the systems, structures and culture of an evolving College while sharing holistic leadership as part of a seven-member Executive Leadership Team. This is a leadership opportunity with genuine scope: to influence a growing school today while helping shape what it becomes next.
