Construction Estimator

About the role

We are seeking a Construction Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates, construction budgets and tender pricing for our building projects.

Working closely with our project delivery team, you will review drawings and specifications, calculate quantities, obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations, and prepare estimates that support tender submissions and project planning. You will also update estimates as project requirements change and assist with monitoring costs against approved budgets.

Key responsibilities

·Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications and tender documents to identify project scope and estimating requirements.

·Prepare quantity take-offs and calculate material, labour, plant, equipment and subcontractor requirements.

·Develop itemised construction cost estimates, preliminary budgets and tender pricing, recording assumptions, allowances and exclusions.

·Request and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations, checking pricing, scope coverage and consistency with project requirements.

·Liaise with project managers, engineers, designers and site personnel to clarify technical information and resolve gaps affecting estimates.

·Assess construction methods, resource requirements and anticipated timeframes when preparing estimates.

·Identify cost risks and assess alternative materials or construction methods to support practical, cost-effective project delivery.

·Revise estimates following design changes, updated quotations or changes in the proposed scope of works.

·Prepare estimating summaries and cost breakdowns for management review and handover to the project delivery team.

·Maintain estimating records, pricing information and supporting calculations, and assist with comparing actual project costs against estimates.

Qualifications and experience

·A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building and Construction Estimating, or a closely related discipline.

·At least one year of relevant experience involving construction estimating, quantity take-offs, construction budgeting or tender pricing.

·Experience gained in a civil engineering or construction project support role will also be considered where it includes substantial estimating and cost preparation responsibilities.

·Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and technical documentation.

·Sound understanding of construction materials, methods and the factors affecting labour, equipment and subcontractor costs.

·Strong numerical and analytical skills, with careful attention to accuracy.

·Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to work with digital drawings and estimating tools.

·Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate with colleagues, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.

·Ability to organise competing tasks and meet estimating and tender deadlines.

Remuneration

The successful applicant will receive a base salary of AUD $100,000–$115,000 per annum, plus superannuation. The salary offered will reflect relevant qualifications, experience and demonstrated capability.
