About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental professional to lead the implementation of Darebin's Contaminated Land Management Framework and provide specialist advice on contaminated land, environmental risk and regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the Head of Integrated Water & Specialist Environmental Services, you will drive the delivery of contaminated land investigations, remediation projects and environmental compliance activities across Council. You will work closely with EPA Victoria, consultants, government agencies and internal stakeholders to manage environmental risks and support informed decision-making.
You will also support the Climate and Environment Risk Officer, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
You will:
- Lead the implementation and ongoing management of Council's Contaminated Land Management Framework.
- Manage contaminated land investigations, environmental assessments and remediation projects from planning through to delivery.
- Provide expert technical advice on environmental risk, compliance obligations and contaminated land matters.
- Oversee consultants, project budgets, timelines and contractor performance to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Lead and support the Climate and Environment Risk Officer while building positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
About you:
You are a technically strong environmental professional who enjoys solving complex problems and delivering practical outcomes. You bring a collaborative approach, sound judgement and the ability to communicate complex environmental issues to a wide range of audiences.
- Qualifications in environmental science, environmental engineering, geology or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience delivering contaminated land investigations, environmental assessments and remediation projects.
- Strong knowledge of EPA Victoria requirements, the Environment Protection Act 2017 and relevant environmental legislation.
- Experience managing consultants, contractors, budgets and project delivery.
- Leadership experience, including supervising, mentoring or developing staff in a technical environment.
