The opportunity

We are in the market for an experienced and qualified professional to join our team as Coordinator Financial Accounting. You are passionate about your profession and enjoy the rewards of a good challenge.

As the Coordinator Financial Accounting, you will coordinate and manage key financial accounting functions to ensure the City’s financial services requirements are met. This includes providing specialist financial advice, overseeing month and year-end processes, managing general ledger functions, reconciliations, journals and financial registers, and supporting compliance with relevant legislation, accounting standards and internal controls.

A key focus of the role is the preparation of year-end accounts, annual financial statements and statutory returns in a timely and accurate manner. You will liaise closely with external auditors, government agencies, City officers and other stakeholders to support the audit process, respond to information requests and ensure financial reporting is completed to a high standard.

You will also lead and support a capable team, manage cashflow, investments and borrowings, and contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting and business processes. Working collaboratively across the organisation, you will deliver financial analysis, insights and practical solutions that support informed decision-making, organisational performance and a strong culture of accountability.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• An undergraduate qualification in Accounting or Commerce, membership of CPA, ICAA or equivalent, and a current unrestricted ‘C’ class national driver’s licence.
• Leadership and accounting experience in a medium to large organisation, with demonstrated staff supervision experience.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting, local government legislation and regulation, financial modelling, planning and organisational processes.
• Well-developed report writing, presentation, training, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound business acumen.
