Your new role
The Ecology Specialist is responsible for assisting and managing all ecological assessments, approvals and compliance activities to support the organisation's infrastructure operations. This role provides technical leadership in flora and fauna management, ensuring that projects meet regulatory requirements while effectively identifying and mitigating environmental risks.

  • Lead flora and fauna assessments, surveys and ecological investigations to support infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and review ecological reports, approvals and environmental documentation.
  • Provide specialist ecological advice to project, maintenance and operational teams.
  • Manage environmental permits, compliance obligations and regulatory approvals.
  • Maintain ecological data, GIS records and environmental reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance through field assurance activities, risk management and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with regulators and stakeholders while mentoring staff and promoting ecological awareness.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Ecology, Botany, Zoology or a related discipline.
  • Several years experience in terrestrial ecology, ideally within infrastructure, resources or linear asset environments.
  • Strong knowledge of WA and Commonwealth environmental legislation, approvals, permitting and compliance requirements.
  • Experience delivering flora and fauna surveys, ecological assessments, environmental approvals and technical reporting.
  • Proficiency in GIS and ecological data management, with strong stakeholder engagement, leadership and team management skills.
