Senior Cost Controller

About the opportunity

Resourceful Recruitment are partnering with a major Australian energy and fuels business is creating a new Senior Cost Control Consultant role to strengthen cost governance across its Reliability & Maintenance function. This is a transformation role, not extra transactional capacity. You’ll design and embed a Cost Control Framework across Maintenance and Turnaround & Inspection (T&I) activities, using an SAP S/4HANA transition to standardise processes, improve forecasting and transparency, and strengthen contractor accountability.
The business is upfront that this is a work in progress. There will be gaps, and senior leaders want change. We’re looking for an experienced consultant who is energised by setting up frameworks and workflows, not someone who expects a finished operating model.

What you’ll do

Assess and design

• Baseline current cost control processes across Maintenance and T&I
• Define the governance model and standardise contractor reporting requirements
• Align the future-state framework with SAP S/4HANA
• Champion the suitability and integration of Fieldglass/MyTrac

Build and pilot

• Develop cost control standards, forecasting methods and a governance RACI
• Build the contractor accountability framework and pilot it across selected workstreams

Embed and integrate

• Roll out the common framework across major contractors and the Maintenance and T&I portfolios
• Integrate reporting structures, Power BI dashboards and assurance processes

Sustain and transition

• Transfer capability to internal personnel and establish ongoing governance routines
• Reduce reliance on embedded contractor support and implement an exit strategy

About you

Essential

• Strong systemisation and process improvement experience using SAP, cost management processes and reporting structures
• Proven track record developing and implementing governance-led cost control, forecasting and contractor assurance frameworks
• Experience in oil and gas and/or heavy industrial maintenance, cost control and turnaround environments

Desirable

• IBM Planning Analytics for budgeting and forecasting
• Advanced Power BI reporting and dashboard development
• Experience with Fieldglass and/or MyTrac
• Exposure to an SAP S/4HANA implementation or transition
• Organisational capability uplift and change management experience
• Strong financial management, accrual governance and executive reporting

Ideal background

• Maintenance and OpEx cost control, rather than CapEx project controls (CapEx is a bonus)
• Experience with Tier 1 operators where Fieldglass and similar systems are familiar
• Comfortable in an environment where processes are still being built, and able to work alongside finance business partners
