We are looking for a passionate and experienced Training Officer to join our People & Culture team, based at our Darwin Support Office.

In this hands-on role, you will deliver and assess accredited retail training programs to help local store staff develop their skills, confidence and career opportunities.

You will work closely with trainees, Store Managers and the Training team, providing both face-to-face and virtual training and support. Regular travel to remote communities is a key part of this role, with trips of up to a week at a time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and assess accredited retail training programs in remote Aboriginal communities.
  • Provide trainees with engaging and flexible face-to-face and virtual training and support.
  • Monitor trainee progress, provide regular feedback and support trainees to successfully complete their training.
  • Conduct Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessments and provide appropriate learning support.
  • Work with Store Managers to identify and recruit potential trainees.
  • Plan and coordinate training visits in line with program and contractual requirements.
  • Support VET in Schools programs through school visits and practical training.
  • Build strong relationships with trainees, Store Managers, Apprenticeships Support Officers and other key stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate student records and data using VETtrak.
  • Support training compliance, validation and continuous improvement activities in line with RTO requirements.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of training resources and delivery methods.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  • SIR40316 Certificate IV in Retail Management.
  • Strong training, assessment, mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • High cultural intelligence, particularly when working with Australian Indigenous cultures and communities.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer literacy with the ability to gather, interpret and report data.
  • A practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence.
  • Working with Children Check and National Police Certificate, or the ability to obtain them.
  • Willingness and ability to regularly travel to remote communities for up to a week at a time.

Desired

  • Minimum two years’ experience in a training role, with proven experience as a trainer and assessor.
  • Experience working effectively with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Experience using the VETtrak student management system.
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain it.
  • SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality or SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality, or the ability to obtain either qualification.
  • SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol, or the ability to obtain it.
  • Experience working in a changing retail environment.
  • Previous experience working with Indigenous people is highly regarded.
