About the role
As a Solid Plasterer, you will be responsible for surface preparation, solid plastering, rendering and the application and finishing of specialised acoustic, thermal and fire-resistant coating systems across various construction projects.
Key responsibilities
- Examine construction drawings, technical specifications and project requirements to determine appropriate plastering techniques, surface preparation methods and application requirements for acoustic, thermal and fire-resistant coating systems.
- Measure, mark and prepare walls, ceilings, concrete surfaces and other building substrates by cleaning, repairing and treating surfaces to ensure proper adhesion of plaster, render and specialised coating materials.
- Calculate material quantities and mix plaster, cement, render and specialised coating compounds according to project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
- Apply coats of plaster, cement and render to internal and external building surfaces using trowels, floats and other plastering equipment, ensuring consistent thickness, smoothness and adhesion.
- Apply and finish specialised acoustic and sound-absorbing plaster-based coatings to walls, ceilings and structural surfaces to improve acoustic performance and reduce noise transmission within buildings.
- Undertake the application and finishing of thermal insulation and fire-resistant coating materials on designated building surfaces using appropriate plastering and spray application techniques.
- Level, straighten and smooth plastered surfaces, corners, edges and junctions, including installing corner beads, reinforcement materials and other plastering accessories where required.
- Create smooth, textured and decorative finishes on plastered and coated surfaces in accordance with architectural designs, client specifications and project requirements.
- Repair cracks, joints, surface imperfections and damaged plastered areas by applying suitable filling compounds, patching materials and finishing coats to achieve a uniform and professional finish.
- Inspect completed plastering and coating work to ensure compliance with required thickness, surface finish, quality standards and project specifications while maintaining safe work practices and properly operating plastering and spray application equipment.
About you
- Certificate III in Solid Plastering.
- Certificate IV in Building and Construction.
- Minimum two years of relevant professional experience in solid plastering, rendering, surface finishing or specialised construction coating applications.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing surfaces, mixing and applying plaster, cement and render, and achieving high-quality finishes.
- Knowledge of acoustic insulation, thermal insulation and fire-resistant coating systems, including spray-applied materials.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications and manufacturer application instructions.
- Proficiency in using plastering tools, trowels, levelling equipment, mixing machinery and specialised spray application equipment.
- Sound understanding of Australian building and construction practices, workplace health and safety requirements and quality standards.
