Seeking your next adventure? Become the Pool Manager at Pipalyatjara in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankuntjatjara (APY) Lands!

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, culturally respectful and adaptable Pool Manager to oversee the Pipalyatjara community pool and become part of a welcoming Anangu community.

This is more than a pool management role, it’s an opportunity to experience life in a unique remote community, build meaningful connections and contribute to the health, wellbeing and enjoyment of Anangu students, families and the wider community.

Pipalyatjara is nestled among spectacular desert landscapes, with the Musgrave Ranges on your doorstep and the Northern Territory and Western Australian borders nearby.

When you’re not at the pool, there are opportunities to explore local walking tracks, discover ancient rock art and visit neighbouring communities including Kalka and Kanpi.

If you’re looking for a role that takes you somewhere different and gives you the chance to experience Australia’s remote outback while making a genuine contribution to community life, this could be the opportunity for you.

What you will do:

During the pool season, which generally operates across Terms 4 and 1 and the summer school holidays, you’ll manage the day-to-day operation of the pool, ensuring it is safe, welcoming and well maintained.

The pool plays an important role in the community, supporting:

  • lifesaving and swimming training
  • school PE programs
  • recreation and play
  • community swimming outside school hours.

A seven-day roster may apply during the pool season, developed in consultation with the community. Pool season dates may vary depending on confirmed operating dates.

When the pool is closed for the off-season, you may have the opportunity to take on basic maintenance and support the local school with tasks such as grounds care, repairs and cleaning.

The initial appointment covers the pool season, with potential to extend into the off-season depending on your skills and experience.

What you will bring:

  • genuine cultural respect and a willingness to learn
  • resilience, flexibility and adaptability
  • strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • the ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • a commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for the community.

Previous pool management or lifeguard experience is desirable, but training will be provided.

What you could get:

Alongside the opportunity to experience life in one of Australia’s most unique and remote locations, you’ll receive:

  • Up to $20,000 attraction allowance over your contract (pro rata)
  • $5,700–$9,000 locality allowance per annum
  • Fully furnished accommodation, including utilities (may be shared)
  • An opportunity to live and work alongside an Anangu community and experience the APY Lands firsthand.

Ready to Bring your Brilliance to the APY Lands?

If you’re ready for a new adventure, want to make a meaningful contribution and are excited by the opportunity to experience life in the APY Lands, we’d love to hear from you.
