About the Branch

The Operations Branch is the manufacturing arm of the Mint. It is an operationally-focused, multi-disciplinary team, responsible for the manufacture of both Australian and foreign circulating coin, collectable coins, and tooling to support those production requirements. The Branch covers coin manufacture, die preparation, blank preparation, electroplating, chemical processing, tooling and machining services, planning and packing.

The Branch has a strong focus on safety, continuous improvement, and quality. The Operations branch is currently embarking on a large program of uplift initiatives, providing a great opportunity for enthusiastic leaders to contribute to meaningful change and development.

About the Role
The Mechanical Fitter supports a range of manual and automated production within the Operations Branch, which may include minting, printing, packing or other associated manufacturing processes. The role conducts tool setting tasks, assists with regular maintenance, repairs and improvements, and performs diagnostics and unscheduled breakdown rectification.

The position may participate in an on call roster to provide after hours support for urgent maintenance needs. This involves responding to breakdowns, performing fault finding and ensuring essential services and equipment remain operational outside standard working hours.

The Duties
The duties of this position include:
•    Managing the setup, adjustment and ongoing maintenance of a wide range of plant and mechanical equipment. This includes performing preventative and corrective maintenance, conducting inspections, and ensuring all machinery operates safely, efficiently and in accordance with technical specifications and organisational standards.
•    Undertaking a variety of fitting and mechanical trade tasks, including machining, assembly, installation and repair of components and systems. This work requires the use of specialised tools, interpretation of technical drawings and adherence to established trade practices to ensure high quality workmanship.
•    Diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults using systematic problem solving techniques. These include identifying root causes, implementing effective solutions and providing technical advice to support the safe and reliable operation of plant and equipment.
•    Using computerised maintenance management systems to record work activities, update asset histories and maintain accurate service documentation.
•    Contributing to risk management processes by assisting in the development and review of formal risk assessments and other safety documentation.
•    Supporting the development of apprentices and less experienced staff by providing on the job training, guidance and mentoring, reinforcing safe work practices and contributing to the development of technical competency within the team.
•    Supervising contractors engaged in mechanical or maintenance activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements. 
•    Contributing to project management tasks such as planning, scheduling and coordinating small scale mechanical projects or upgrades. 
•    Model and promote a safe, inclusive, respectful and high performing workplace culture that reflects obligations under the WHS Act, the APS values and DRIVE Leadership behaviours.

Qualifications
This position requires a relevant trade qualification or equivalent experience.
