About the position

Corangamite Shire Council is seeking a Strategic Planner to join our Regulatory Services team.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the preparation, development and implementation of strategic land use planning projects and initiatives of Council.

  • Processing and administering complex planning scheme amendments to implement the adopted strategies of Council.

  • Providing a high level of professional planning expertise to management, internal departments, Council and the community.

  • Delivering cross-organisational planning solutions to ensure strategic and integrated outcomes for the Shire.

  • Working both independently and as part of a team to achieve timely and appropriate outcomes on complex planning projects, policy and strategy development.

  • Exercising professional judgement within agreed standards and actively contribute to the pursuit of effective and timely service.

  • Assisting the Planning Coordinator with administering the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Subdivision Act 1988 and the Corangamite Planning Scheme.

  • Assisting the Planning Unit with day-to-day operation.

About you

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Urban or Regional Planning and / or a closely related field, or significant professional experience is highly desirable. Experience in township structure plans, urban design frameworks and planning policy will be highly regarded.

  • Demonstrated experience at a senior level in delivering planning strategy and policy projects balancing complex issues and competing priorities, and an understanding of a local government setting.

  • A thorough understanding of the Victorian planning system with a proven ability to develop and implement planning policy / strategy through statutory mechanisms.

  • Proven ability to think strategically, analyse complex situations, formulate and implement creative solutions and achieve outcomes that advance Council priorities.

  • Highly developed skills in communication of complex ideas, community consultation and facilitation of stakeholders to achieve quality outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability in writing project briefs, managing consultants and undertaking stakeholder consultations.

  • Expert negotiation skills and proven ability to influence outcomes.

  • Victorian Drivers Licence and recent National Police Check, or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
