Project Engineer Civil Capital Works

Your new organisation
An excellent short-term opportunity is available for an experienced Civil Project Engineer to join a metropolitan local government organisation and support the delivery of a busy program of civil infrastructure and public realm projects. This is not a traditional civil design role. While a strong technical understanding of civil engineering is important, the key focus will be capital works delivery, procurement, contract administration and contractor management.
You will take projects through procurement and construction, working closely with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure work is delivered safely, to specification, within budget and on program.

Your new role

• Managing civil capital works projects through the construction and delivery phases
• Coordinating procurement, tender evaluations and contractor appointments
• Managing construction contracts and contractor performance
• Monitoring project budgets, programs, risks, variations and quality
• Undertaking site inspections and providing technical input to resolve construction issues
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, estimates and contract documentation as required
• Liaising with contractors, consultants, service authorities and internal stakeholders
• Providing regular reporting across project scope, budget, timing and risk

The wider project environment includes streetscape, public realm and civil infrastructure projects, with projects often combining civil engineering and landscape elements.

What you'll need to succeed

• A qualification in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Demonstrated experience delivering civil capital works projects
• Strong contract administration and contractor management experience
• Experience with procurement and tender processes
• The ability to confidently manage contractors and construction activities on site
• Strong understanding of civil construction standards, project risk and WHS requirements
• Ability to manage budgets, programs, variations and competing project priorities
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Previous local government or public sector experience will be highly regarded
• Experience delivering streetscape, public realm, roads, drainage, footpaths or similar municipal infrastructure projects would be advantageous

The position requires someone capable of working autonomously and managing contractors to achieve safe, timely and high-quality project outcomes.
