- Advanced Fleet & Tool Access: Command a modern inventory of technical tools and heavy horticultural plant tailored for professional open-space management.
- Constructive Culture: Join a supportive outdoor workforce that prioritises ongoing staff training, continuous personal development, and a zero-harm workplace safety culture.
The Role:
Reporting directly to the Team Leader, Parks & Gardens, you will deliver high-quality proactive and reactive maintenance works while executing tasks under minimal supervision.

- Command Specialised Machinery: Safely and efficiently operate an extensive array of plant equipment, including ride-on and push mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, pole saws, elevated working platforms (EWP), and wood chippers.
- Manage Asset Safety: Conduct structured playground equipment inspections and perform routine maintenance or painting on park furniture and community BBQ facilities.
- Deliver Reactive & Emergency Works: Respond agility-first to localised infrastructure demands, including irrigation system installation/repairs, fallen tree removals, branch clearing, and the extraction of illegally dumped waste.
- Govern Work Zone Traffic: Establish and maintain compliant work zone traffic management frameworks and road signage when operating in close proximity to public motorists.
- Facilitate Community Service: Act as a courteous and professional point of contact for citizens and visitors, addressing public enquiries to mirror the council's service-led values.
- Maintain Operational Records: Keep meticulous compliance logs, including minor procurement dockets, traffic control device logs, and proactive WHS hazard or incident reporting inputs.
About You:
You are a physically fit, self-motivated horticultural or trade professional who pairs practical mechanical aptitude with the ability to work cohesively within an outdoor operational team.
- Licencing & Certification: Possession of a valid current motor vehicle driver’s licence, backed by a Class MR (Medium Rigid) or greater qualification.
- Technical Competency Tickets: Demonstrated, current competency tickets for Chainsaw operation and Elevated Work Platform (EWP) utilisation, alongside a valid Temporary Traffic Management Certificate.
- Horticultural Expertise: Deep operational knowledge of horticultural best practices, including turf management, tree planting, open space maintenance, and sophisticated irrigation repairs.
- Academic Foundation (Desirable): A formal Certificate in Horticulture or a significant, verified volume of equivalent vocational experience in a similar municipal or commercial setting.
- Safety Alignment: A rigorous commitment to Work Health & Safety (WHS) legislation, active hazard identification, and a clear understanding of workplace Fair Treatment principles.
