We are looking for skilled Disability Support Worker to join our team.
Job responsibilities include
- Deliver individualised support in accordance with each participant’s support plan, goals, preferences and assessed needs.
- Assist participants with daily living and personal care activities, including grooming, dressing, mobility and maintaining personal routines.
- Support participants to develop and maintain independence in personal, household and community activities.
- Assist with meal preparation, grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry and other domestic tasks relevant to participants’ support needs.
- Accompany participants to appointments, recreational activities, social engagements and community programs to promote participation and inclusion.
- Provide assistance with mobility, transfers and the safe use of mobility aids and other support equipment.
- Observe and report changes in participants’ physical, emotional or behavioural wellbeing and escalate concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain accurate progress notes, incident reports, daily records and other required documentation using relevant electronic systems.
- Follow participant-specific support strategies and organisational procedures when providing personal care and daily assistance.
- Build respectful and professional relationships with participants while maintaining appropriate boundaries, confidentiality and dignity.
- Promote participant choice, independence and control by supporting participants to communicate their needs, preferences and decisions.
- Identify potential risks in participants’ homes and community environments and follow appropriate workplace health, safety, hygiene and infection-control procedures.
- Work collaboratively with families, carers, supervisors and other support professionals to ensure consistent and effective participant support.
- Provide companionship, reassurance and practical assistance while adapting communication and support approaches to participants’ individual needs, abilities and circumstances.
- Promptly seek guidance and escalate situations where participant safety, wellbeing or support requirements fall outside the worker’s responsibilities or level of training.
Experience, qualifications and skills required
- Minimum one year of experience in relevant role.
- Certificate III in Individual Support/ Mental Health/ Aged Care/ Community Services/Disability Work or similar.
- Certificate III in Disability Services or equivalent.
- Current Worker Screening and WWCC (if required)
- First Aid Certificate & CPR
- Drivers License
- Reliable and comprehensively insured vehicle
- New Worker NDIS Induction Module
- Medication Competency
- Manual handling Training
- Infection Control Training
- Experience supporting people with disability
- Demonstrated continuing professional development.
- Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles
- Use of equipment related to personal and work safety
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with various ages, cultures and ability levels
- Ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
- Strong time management and ability to prioritise.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of programs and other computer
- systems for record-keeping.
- Excellent problem solving and conflict management skills.
