About the service:
Cressy Road Early Learning is an approved education and care service operating under the Children (Education and Care Services) National Law (NSW) and the Education and Care Services National Regulations. The service has been approved since 30 October 2008 and is approved to provide education and care to a maximum of 68 children.
The service delivers an educational program based on the Early Years Learning Framework and is committed to high-quality, play-based learning that supports each child's social, emotional, intellectual and physical development in partnership with families.
Position summary:
Cressy Road Early Learning is seeking a qualified and motivated Early Childhood Teacher to lead the planning and delivery of the educational program for children in the pre-primary years. The successful applicant will take professional responsibility for curriculum planning, documentation of children's learning, and the mentoring of educators, and will work in partnership with families to support each child's development.
This is a teaching position requiring an approved early childhood teaching qualification and current NSW teacher accreditation. It is not an educator or assistant role.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Program planning and learning environments – plan and structure learning in both indoor and outdoor environments, using a variety of materials and equipment to facilitate each child's development, in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standard.
- Developmental experiences – provide a broad range of experiences and activities that develop children's motor skills, cooperative social skills, confidence and understanding.
- Language and literacy development – promote language development through storytelling, role play, songs, rhymes and informal discussions, held both individually and in groups.
- Observation and assessment – observe children to evaluate and document their progress, and to detect signs of ill health, emotional disturbance, developmental delay or disability, referring concerns through the appropriate channels.
- Health, nutrition, welfare and safety – monitor the nutritional health, welfare and safety needs of children and identify factors that may impede a child's progress, ensuring compliance with the service's policies and the National Regulations.
- Partnership with families – discuss each child's progress with parents and carers, provide written learning documentation, and support families in extending learning at home.
- Meetings and professional participation – attend parent interviews, staff meetings and committee meetings, and contribute to the service's Quality Improvement Plan and self-assessment processes.
- Community and family support – participate in community and family support programs as appropriate, including transition-to-school programs and inclusion support.
- Supervision and mentoring – supervise student teachers on placement and provide professional guidance and mentoring to educators and trainees within the room team.
- Regulatory compliance – meet the requirements applying to early childhood teachers under regulation 272 of the Education and Care Services National Regulations, maintain child protection obligations, and uphold the service's duty of care at all times.
Essential requirements:
- An approved bachelor degree (or higher) in early childhood education, or a qualification recognised by ACECQA as an approved early childhood teaching qualification.
- Current accreditation as a teacher with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), or eligibility to obtain accreditation.
- A minimum of one year of relevant full-time work experience (or the part-time equivalent) as an early childhood teacher.
- A current NSW Working with Children Check clearance.
- Current approved first aid, anaphylaxis management and emergency asthma management qualifications, or a willingness to obtain them prior to commencement.
- Sound working knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework, the National Quality Standard and the Education and Care Services National Regulations.
- Competent English language skills and the right to work in Australia.
Desirable:
- Experience programming for children across the birth-to-five age range in a long day care setting.
- Experience mentoring educators or supervising student teachers on placement.
- Experience contributing to Assessment and Rating preparation or a Quality Improvement Plan.
- Child protection training current within the last 12 months.
Remuneration:
A salary in the range of $80,000 to $95,000 per annum plus superannuation is offered, depending on qualifications and experience. The position is classified under the Educational Services (Teachers) Award 2020 as an Early Childhood Teacher, Level 1, and the salary offered is at or above the annual market salary rate for the position and above the applicable statutory income threshold.
