Our client is a highly respected and well-established diversified financial services firm with a strong pedigree across institutional equities, asset management and corporate advisory. They are seeking a motivated and intellectually curious associate analyst to join their Institutional Equities Research team (Metals & Mining Sector) based in Melbourne.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious finance professional looking to transition into institutional equities research. The successful candidate will assist the lead analyst and team in researching and analysing ASX-listed Small and Mid-Cap Resources companies across a broad range of commodities including base and precious metals, bulk commodities, battery materials and emerging exploration and development companies. This will include supporting the production of high-quality institutional research through financial modelling and valuation, company and industry analysis research.

We are particularly interested in candidates with 1-3 years’ experience from a Big 4 Audit, Deals, Transaction Services, Corporate Finance or similar financial background who have gained exposure to the metals and mining sector and possess a genuine passion for financial markets and equities investing. Candidates who have worked within finance teams within resources companies are also encouraged to apply.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a technical mining discipline such as Geology, Mining Engineering or Metallurgy. Candidates from technical mining backgrounds should have subsequently developed strong financial modelling capabilities.
• Approximately 1–3 years’ professional experience in Audit, Transaction Services, Valuations, Corporate Finance, Investment Banking or Equity Research.
• Exposure to the Australian metals and mining sector viewed favourably.
• Strong financial accounting knowledge with well-developed financial statement literacy, financial modelling and valuation skills.
• Advanced Excel skills and a demonstrated interest in financial modelling, company analysis and investment research.
• A genuine passion for listed equities, investing, financial markets and the resources sector.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
• A proactive, intellectually curious mindset with a strong work ethic and a desire to build a long-term career in institutional equities research.
