About the role

This is a role for someone who thrives at the centre of things, where the work matters, the pace is real, and the people you support are leading the governance of a university through a period of genuine transformation. As Executive Assistant to the Chief Governance Officer, you will provide high-level executive support to the CGO and, on a secondary basis, the Chancellor. You will manage the flow of information, correspondence, briefing materials and meeting papers that keep UNE's governance functions running smoothly and on time. You will coordinate across Council and Committee members, the Vice-Chancellor's Office, senior executives, external stakeholders, regulatory bodies including TEQSA, and partner institutions. This is not a traditional EA role. You will work across the full breadth of the Governance and Assurance Portfolio, which is a team responsible for secretariat, internal audit, records, policy, governance, risk and compliance. You will track actions arising from Council and Committee meetings, support budget and resource management for the Portfolio, coordinate travel and accommodation for Council members, and independently research and analyse confidential and sensitive information as required by the CGO and the Chancellor. You will need initiative, sound judgment, integrity and diplomacy. You will manage competing priorities, maintain the strictest confidence, and contribute substantively to the work of a team that sits at the heart of UNE's accountability framework.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring experience providing executive support at senior management or board level, including managing workflows, correspondence and scheduling for multiple senior leaders. You will have a working knowledge of how governing bodies, committees, regulatory frameworks and compliance processes operate whether gained in higher education, the public sector or a corporate environment. You will be an excellent writer, capable of drafting reports, briefing papers and correspondence to a high standard of accuracy and professionalism. You will be comfortable working with a high level of autonomy, exercising sound judgment and planning skills to manage and prioritise competing demands in a fast-paced environment.

Your interpersonal skills will be strong. You will liaise effectively with a diverse range of people at all levels, from Council members and the Chancellor to regulatory bodies and colleagues across the University, maintaining diplomacy and discretion at all times.

You will hold a degree with substantial relevant experience, or extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education or training.

About the Portfolio

The Governance and Assurance Portfolio supports and enables governance, compliance and institutional assurance at UNE. The Portfolio aggregates the University's governance functions with its assurance functions, including standards, frameworks and regulatory oversight. It encompasses the Office of the Chief Governance Officer, the Secretariat team, the Internal Audit function, the Records team, the Policy team, the Governance team, and the Self-Assurance function incorporating TEQSA registration and risk management. The Portfolio is led by the Chief Governance Officer, who also serves as Chief Audit Executive and University Secretary. You will be joining a small, high-performing team that operates at the intersection of strategy, accountability and institutional integrity, supporting the governing body, the executive and the University community through a period of significant change.
