About the Role
Our client is seeking an Exploration Geologist to join its team on a full-time, permanent basis. The position is Perth-based, with campaign and rostered site work at regional exploration projects in the Kalgoorlie–Coolgardie area of the Eastern Goldfields.
Reporting to the company directors, the successful candidate will support mineral exploration programs through geological logging, core and sample processing, GIS and field data management, and close coordination with drilling and geological teams. The role will also assist with data interpretation, target generation and reporting of results to the company directors.
The successful candidate will be practical, safety-focused and comfortable working across remote exploration sites and changing drilling programs.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Conducting geological fieldwork for reverse circulation, air-core and diamond drilling exploration
• programs.
• Examining and logging RC drill samples and diamond drill core, including lithology, alteration,
• mineralisation, structure and weathering characteristics.
• Orienting, marking, measuring and photographing diamond drill core in accordance with project
• procedures.
• Cutting drill core and preparing representative samples for laboratory submission, including
• accurate labelling and sample tracking.
• Collecting, organising and managing geological samples while maintaining chain-of-custody and
• quality-control requirements.
• Supporting geologists with lithology identification, stratigraphic interpretation and mineralisation
• assessment.
• Maintaining accurate geological logs, drilling records, sample records and field documentation
• using company systems.
• Compiling, validating and managing drilling and geological data for interpretation and reporting.
• Assisting with soil sampling, geological mapping and other field activities required by exploration
• programs.
• Liaising with drilling crews, laboratories and geological team members to support safe and
• efficient program delivery.
• Identifying field or data-quality issues and escalating them promptly
• Complying with all health, safety, environmental, community and site-specific procedures.
• Travelling to and working at regional project sites as required by the exploration schedule.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
• At least three years of relevant professional experience in mineral exploration, engineering
• geology, geological investigation or a closely related role.
• A relevant bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Geology, Geoscience, Exploration
• Technology and Engineering, Geological Engineering or a related discipline.
• Practical experience supporting RC, air-core and diamond drilling programs.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake geological logging and accurately record lithology, alteration,
• mineralisation and weathering characteristics.
• Experience with diamond core orientation, marking, measuring, photography, cutting and
• sampling.
• Experience collecting, labelling and managing geological samples and preparing them for
• laboratory submission.
• Ability to maintain accurate geological, drilling and sample records and to compile field data
• using digital systems.
• Working knowledge of relevant geological and spatial software, such as LogChief, QGIS,
• Micromine or comparable applications.
• A sound understanding of exploration-site health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Strong attention to detail, practical problem-solving ability and the capacity to work both
• independently and as part of a field team.
• Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with
• geologists, drilling crews and other project personnel.
• A current driver's licence and the ability and willingness to work at regional and remote sites on an
• agreed roster.
• Experience in both gold and lithium exploration and project development in Western Australian field conditions will be highly regarded.
