23rd October, 2026

Are you a commercially minded Fabrication Manager who knows how to run a workshop, manage production schedules and turn a strong pipeline of work into a profitable operation?

We're seeking an experienced Fabrication Manager to take ownership of an established fabrication workshop within a growing, family-owned business based in O'Connor.

With a dedicated workshop already in place, an existing team of four fabricators and a strong pipeline of work, this is an opportunity for someone to take the reins, rebuild the division and establish a successful, commercially driven operation with plenty of room to grow.

About the Role
Initially, you'll focus on supporting the business's marine construction projects, overseeing the fabrication of specialist steel components used in jetty construction and associated infrastructure.

From there, you'll have the opportunity to expand the workshop's capabilities and develop external work opportunities, helping build the fabrication division into a stronger and more profitable part of the business.

This is a hands-on leadership role with a strong focus on planning, scheduling, costing and commercial performance. You'll be responsible for ensuring work is completed efficiently, schedules are followed and resources are managed effectively.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking full ownership of the fabrication workshop and its day-to-day operations.
  • Managing production schedules, workflow and project deadlines.
  • Overseeing job costing, labour allocation and commercial performance.
  • Ensuring fabrication work is completed efficiently, to specification and within budget.
  • Leading and supporting the existing team of four workshop employees.
  • Identifying when additional staff are required to meet workload demands.
  • Proactively seeking new work and external fabrication opportunities during quieter periods.
  • Working closely with management and the wider marine construction team to coordinate priorities.
  • Establishing effective systems and processes to support the ongoing growth of the division.

About the Fabrication Work
The workshop specialises in structural steel fabrication associated with marine construction, including:

  • Fabrication of jetty frames and steel structures installed on jetties
  • Pile splicing
  • Crane landings and associated steel components
  • General structural and project-based fabrication

About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong fabrication knowledge with the commercial and operational skills to run a successful workshop.

You may currently be a Fabrication Manager, Workshop Manager, Production Manager or a senior fabrication professional ready to step into a broader leadership role.

To be successful, you'll bring:

  • Previous experience managing a fabrication workshop or similar production environment.
  • A strong understanding of fabrication processes and structural steelwork.
  • Proven experience with job costing, labour planning and commercial decision-making.
  • Excellent scheduling and organisational skills, with the ability to keep work moving and deadlines on track.
  • The ability to manage resources effectively and make sound decisions around staffing and workload.
  • A proactive, business-minded approach to identifying opportunities and driving growth.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to get the best out of a small team.
  • A practical, solutions-focused attitude and the confidence to take ownership of an operation.

Experience in marine construction, structural steel or heavy fabrication would be highly regarded.

What's on Offer?

  • Circa $150,000 + super, depending on experience.
  • Monday to Friday working week, with days of up to 10 hours.
  • An established workshop and existing team ready for you to lead.
  • The autonomy to rebuild and develop the fabrication division.
  • The opportunity to grow external work opportunities and make a genuine commercial impact.
  • The backing of a growing, family-owned business with a strong pipeline of work.

Ready to Make Your Mark?

This is an opportunity for a commercially driven fabrication professional who wants more than just keeping a workshop running. You'll have the scope to shape the operation, build the team as required and play a key role in the next stage of the business's growth.
