The Opportunity

As an Intermediate Accountant, you will be responsible for completing general accounting and tax-related work for review by senior team members. You will use sound judgement and initiative to manage workflow, plan tasks effectively and complete work within agreed timeframes and budgets.

You will work closely with experienced team members to continue developing your technical knowledge, commercial understanding and client service skills. This role will suit someone who is committed to learning and development, enjoys working as part of a team and is motivated to contribute to Nexia’s vision and culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare financial statements, income tax returns and supporting schedules to review stage;
  • Assist with statutory compliance work, including company secretarial requirements and work across a variety of entity types such as companies, trusts, individuals, partnerships and superannuation funds;
  • Support business consulting work by developing an understanding of client needs and identifying opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction or income growth;
  • Assist with year-end tax planning by analysing client performance and preparing relevant information for review;
  • Prepare management accounts to review stage;
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional, proactive and courteous communication;
  • Manage workflow effectively, including record keeping, timesheet recording and meeting productive time budgets;
  • Assist junior team members as required and contribute positively to team meetings, training and firm initiatives; and
  • Complete administrative and ad hoc tasks as required by the team.

About you

To be successful in this role you will:  

  • Have proven experience in an Australian chartered firm;
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, with the confidence to liaise with senior stakeholders and clients.
  • Be currently studying or have completed postgraduate studies (e.g. the CA program)
  • Have experience using accounting software including APS, MYOB and cloud based tools, e.g. Xero, QuickBooks; 
  • Be an enthusiastic team player, with a drive to take ownership and responsibility over your own work;
