Hays Trades & Labour is currently seeking a reliable and motivated Labourer to support a large government-focused construction and maintenance project based in Cairns. This is a temporary contract opportunity commencing mid-September through to mid-December 2026, offering consistent work and a variety of duties both on-site and within the depot.
Your new role
Working alongside skilled tradespeople and project teams, you will play a key role in maintaining site operations and supporting construction activities across multiple locations.Your duties will include:
- Picking up and delivering materials to various sites
- Performing site clean-ups and dump runs
- Assisting tradespeople with general construction activities
- Furniture and equipment relocations
- Vehicle servicing drop-offs and basic vehicle maintenance tasks
- Completing weekly vehicle safety checks
- Organising tools and equipment within the depot
- Coordinating equipment audits and safety inspections
- Test and tagging tools and equipment
- Maintaining tool inventories and asset labelling
- General servicing and maintenance of tools and equipment
- Delivering and erecting temporary fencing and banner mesh
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Construction White Card
- Current unrestricted driver's licence with a clean driving record
- Previous experience working on construction or building sites
- Strong awareness of workplace health and safety requirements
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good organisational skills and a proactive attitude
Highly desirable:
- HR Driver's Licence
