Investments focused Legal Counsel role with broad commercial and regulatory exposure | Sydney CBD

Your new company
Our client is a leading financial services organisation undergoing a significant period of growth, integration and transformation. With a strong presence across the life insurance, investment management and wealth sectors, the business is focused on delivering innovative solutions and partnering closely with key stakeholders across the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative and high-performing legal team at a time when lawyers have the chance to contribute to the evolution of legal processes, frameworks and ways of working.

Your new role
Reporting to the Head of Legal, Corporate, you will join a specialist in-house legal team providing strategic and commercially focused legal support across a diverse range of matters. While the role has a strong investments and funds management focus, you will also gain exposure to broader commercial and regulatory work.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on investment management and funds management matters, including the review and negotiation of investment management agreements (IMAs).
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial agreements, including technology and procurement contracts.
  • Supporting strategic projects, business integration initiatives and transactions.
  • Providing legal support across life insurance, superannuation and broader financial services matters.
  • Advising on regulatory obligations and risk management issues.
  • Building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and providing practical, commercially oriented legal advice.
  • Working closely with colleagues across legal, investments and the broader business to support organisational objectives.

This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer seeking a varied in-house role with meaningful stakeholder engagement and the ability to influence outcomes in a dynamic environment.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful, you will be a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys working in a fast-paced and evolving business environment.
You will ideally possess:

  • 3-7 years' post-admission experience
  • Experience in funds management, investment management or financial services gained in private practice or in-house.
  • Exposure to superannuation, life insurance or other regulated financial services sectors, although this is not essential.
  • Strong technical legal skills and the ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating investment management agreements and related documentation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage with senior business leaders.
  • The ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and adapt to change.

What you'll get in return
In return, you will join a supportive and experienced legal team within a highly regarded financial services organisation. The role offers:

  • Exposure to complex investment, regulatory and commercial legal matters.
  • The opportunity to partner directly with senior executives and key business stakeholders.
  • A broad and varied role extending beyond core investments work.
  • A collaborative team environment with strong mentoring and development opportunities.
  • The chance to help shape legal processes and contribute to a business undergoing significant transformation.
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements and a modern CBD office location.
  • A competitive remuneration package and performance-based incentives.
