About the role
 
This position is part-time, (24 hours per week) and is fixed term opportunity, covering a period of parental leave until 30 June 2027 with the possibility for extension. 
 
The Mental Health Clinician will work collaboratively with a young person and their family/carers to identify support needs, goals and develop collaborative care plans. The position provides high-quality psycho-social assessment and evidence-based, focused interventions under supervision. The Mental Health Clinician works closely with other members of the team and external service providers to maximise care outcomes for young people referred to headspace Nowra.

Skills & Experience
 

  1. Current AHPRA registration as a Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Provisional Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse, or Occupational Therapist (accredited with OTA as meeting the Australian Competency Standards in mental health)
    OR Qualifications in social work and has (or eligible and willing to work towards) accreditation with the AASW as a Mental Health Social Worker
    OR Current (or eligible and willing to obtain) for clinical registration with PACFA as a Mental Health Practitioner or Certified Practicing and working towards
    OR Current (or eligible and willing to obtain) for Level 2, 3 or 4 membership with ACA.
  2. Experience in assessment and diagnosis of mental health disorders, provision of Cognitive- Behaviour Therapy and other evidence-based focused psychological strategies.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of key issues in relation to the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems.
  4. Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people, and their family and friends.
  5. High standard of computer literacy and data entry competency including MS office and demonstrated capacity to learn new technologies including clinical software packages.

headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Nowra work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.
 
Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Nowra. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services. Services focus on physical health, mental health, youth health, Aboriginal health & chronic disease management. Grand Pacific Health covers a large portion of Southeastern NSW, the ACT and Murrumbidgee region.
