An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Project Accountant to join a privately owned, construction-focused business based in Brisbane. With a strong focus on project delivery, commercial performance and continued growth, the business is seeking a commercially minded accountant who can work closely with project managers and operational stakeholders to drive financial visibility, improve project outcomes and ensure strong financial control across its portfolio.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of project accounting processes and play a key role in supporting the commercial success of the business.

Reporting to the Financial Controller and Commercial Manager, the Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing project financial performance, managing work in progress, coordinating progress claims and providing commercial support to project managers and operational teams.

This role will suit an accountant who enjoys working beyond the numbers, partnering with stakeholders on the ground and helping drive accountability, profitability and cash flow across multiple projects.

  • Report on project revenue, costs, margins and profitability, identifying variances and emerging risks.
  • Maintain accurate project financial records and ensure costs are appropriately allocated.
  • Assist with month-end reporting, reconciliations, journals and project financial analysis.
  • Review project budgets and forecasts, providing insights into financial performance and potential cost overruns.
  • Prepare, review and coordinate monthly progress claims in line with contractual requirements and project milestones.
  • Work closely with project managers and commercial teams to ensure claims are accurate, timely and adequately supported.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up outstanding claims to support cash flow and working capital.
  • Manage and maintain accurate WIP reporting across active projects.
  • Partner closely with Project Managers and operational stakeholders to improve financial performance.

To be successful in this role, you will be a commercially focused accountant with experience in project accounting, ideally within construction or a project-based environment.

You will combine strong technical accounting skills with the confidence and communication skills required to partner with operational stakeholders and influence commercial outcomes.
