About The Role

We have two exciting permanent full-time opportunities for Project Managers within our Waterways and Catchment team, reporting to either the Manager, Service Enablement Healthy Waterways or the Manager, Service Enablement Drainage & Flood Mitigation.

In these roles, you will lead the development and delivery of complex waterways, drainage and flood mitigation projects that provide lasting environmental, community and business benefits. Projects may include fishways, stormwater quality treatment assets, drainage infrastructure, flood mitigation initiatives and other innovative water management solutions that support Melbourne Water's strategic objectives.

You will be responsible for managing projects from concept through to delivery readiness, applying best-practice project management, governance, procurement and risk management methodologies to achieve safe, efficient and value-for-money outcomes. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will drive business case development, approvals, consultant management and delivery strategy planning across the capital project lifecycle.

These roles play a critical part in delivering services aligned with key organisational strategies, including the Port Phillip and Westernport Healthy Waterways Strategy and Melbourne Water's flood mitigation and drainage objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of projects, ensuring intended business benefits are achieved safely, efficiently and within agreed scope, budget, quality and timeframes.
• Partner with project sponsors and key internal and external stakeholders to define requirements, manage expectations and support informed decision-making.
• Lead project development activities, including functional requirements, tender documentation, delivery model selection, risk assessments, stakeholder engagement and readiness for handover to delivery teams.
• Drive innovative and value-for-money outcomes by challenging project scope, exploring alternative delivery methodologies and promoting best practice capital delivery approaches from project identification through to detailed design.
• Manage project governance, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, risk management, approvals, permits and compliance with capital management frameworks and processes.
• Provide technical engineering expertise, project leadership and clear communication to support successful project outcomes and a strong safety culture.

About You

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline, together with a current driver's licence.
• Experience within the water industry will be highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience delivering large, complex and concurrent infrastructure projects, including design, construction, contract management and change management activities.
• Strong technical knowledge across civil and environmental engineering, particularly in waterways, stormwater, drainage, flood mitigation or environmental infrastructure projects.
• Advanced project management capability, including budgeting, forecasting, risk management, asset planning, stakeholder engagement and governance.
• Well-developed financial, commercial, communication, negotiation and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
• Project management certification (AIPM, IPMA, GAPPS or equivalent) will be highly regarded.
