  • Participate in code reviews and provide technical advice to clients.

JobScout Pty Ltd are working to assist our client, Imminently Pty Ltd, a Canberra-based RegTech software company. Imminently develops its own SaaS products for government and enterprise clients, turning legislation, awards and policies into automated decision logic.

Our client is seeking a full-time, ongoing Software Engineer to design, develop, test and maintain software and rules-based logic within its platforms. The role is performed from home in the Gladstone, Queensland region, with occasional company-funded travel to client sites, including in Brisbane.

Responsibilities of our Software Engineer will include:

  • Researching, consulting on, analysing and evaluating system and program needs, including the functional requirements arising from the legislation, industrial instruments and policies that client systems must apply.
  • Designing, developing, modifying and documenting software applications, components and rules-based decision logic within Imminently's platforms, according to technical specifications and Imminently's development standards.
  • Implementing legislation, modern awards, enterprise agreements and organisational policies as structured, executable code and rules models within Imminently's decision engine.
  • Writing, modifying and maintaining program code to meet system requirements, system designs and technical specifications, and improving the performance, reliability and maintainability of existing software.
  • Developing and executing test plans, test cases and automated tests within established testing protocols and quality standards, to verify that software and decision logic perform to specification and produce accurate, auditable outcomes.
  • Testing, debugging, diagnosing and correcting errors and faults across application, rules, data and integration layers.
  • Identifying technology limitations and deficiencies in existing systems, processes and code, and designing and implementing improvements.
  • Designing, developing and testing integrations between Imminently's platforms and client systems, including ERP and payroll platforms such as SAP, TechnologyOne, Oracle, Workday and AscenderPay, using APIs and data interfaces.
  • Implementing, installing and deploying Imminently's software for client engagements, including supporting system and user acceptance testing, go-live and post-implementation support and maintenance.
  • Writing, updating and maintaining technical documentation, end-user documentation and operational procedures, including design specifications, rules documentation, test records and release notes, to support traceability and audit requirements.
  • Participating in code reviews, version control and release management processes, and applying secure development practices consistent with ISO 27001 and SOC 2 requirements.
  • Participating in technical requirements and design sessions with clients, conducted remotely or at client premises as directed by Imminently, to inform software design and development.
  • Providing technical advice and expertise to Delivery Leads, internal teams and clients on software design, system capability and the efficient use of Imminently's platforms.
  • Keeping up to date with emerging technologies relevant to rules-as-code, decision automation and AI-enabled software, and recommending improvements to Imminently's products and engineering practices.

To be successfully considered for the role, you:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher qualification in software engineering, computer science, information technology or a related discipline. At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
  • Have a minimum of one year of experience working as a Software Engineer, Software Developer or in an equivalent software engineering role.
  • Have demonstrated experience designing, developing, testing and maintaining software in a commercial environment.
  • Have practical experience with modern programming and scripting languages, version control and structured testing practices.
  • Have experience working with APIs, data integration and relational or structured data.
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to translate complex written requirements, such as legislation, policies or business rules, into precise, testable program logic.
  • Have experience with, or a strong interest in, rules engines, decision automation or rules-as-code (advantageous).
  • Have exposure to ERP, payroll or workforce management systems, or to modern awards and enterprise agreements (advantageous).
  • Can document your work clearly and communicate technical matters to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Are comfortable working remotely and independently within a distributed team.
  • Are willing to travel occasionally to client sites, including in Brisbane, as required.

This is a full-time position of at least 38 hours per week.

Are you a software engineer who enjoys solving precise, logic-heavy problems? Would you like your code to help government and enterprise organisations make lawful, transparent decisions? Are you looking for a stable, full-time role with an innovative Australian software company that lets you work from home in regional Queensland?
