Durotank Group is an Australian family owned company with years of experience in the design and manufacture of Fuel and Water Storage Equipment.

Durotank currently have an opening available in our Lake Cargelligo team for a Vehicle Body Builder.

The Vehicle Body Builder at Durotank is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and custom-modifying heavy-duty, purpose-built vehicle bodies, transport equipment, and specialised self-bunded storage systems. Operating from engineering drawings, the role utilizes technical trade skills to manufacture robust commercial transport trailers, diesel units, and service modules tailored for harsh Australian conditions.

The Vehicle Body Builder at Durotank plays a critical trade role in the manufacturing and customization of heavy-duty, commercial-grade mobile transport units and industrial storage equipment. Operating within a fast-paced workshop environment, the successful candidate utilizes high-level metal fabrication, precision welding, and mechanical assembly skills to build purpose-built trailer bodies, specialized service modules, and self-bunded bulk liquid units from raw materials and detailed engineering blueprints.

This position demands an autonomous, trade-qualified professional capable of executing structural modifications to heavy vehicle chassis while ensuring every build satisfies stringent Australian safety, environmental, and dangerous goods transport regulations. The role is essential to maintaining Durotank's reputation for producing rugged, high-integrity transport equipment engineered to endure Australia's harshest mining, agricultural, and construction environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Constructing & welding framework sections using machinery and cutting equipment:

  • Fabricates robust structural chassis and defensive framing matrices using heavy-gauge metal stock.
  • Operates trade-level plasma cutters, guillotines, and advanced MIG/TIG welding systems to construct the load-bearing baselines of heavy industrial trailers.

Securing and bonding sections together to form complete structural frameworks:

  • Welds, bolts, and permanently secures heavy framework components to establish structural integrity for liquid-transport units.
  • Unites dual-containment steel modules with precision tolerances to guarantee structural reliability under rigorous field stress.

Cutting, shaping, and attaching panels (sheet metal, aluminium, etc.) to the frames:

  • Measures, cold-forms, and profiles protective structural sheet metal and heavy plate steel panels.
  • Mounts outer protection plates and secondary containment layers onto specialized equipment hulls like the Duro Cube range using high-strength mechanical fasteners and deep welds.

Altering and modifying standard assembly line vehicles for specialised client requirements:

  • Re-engineers and retrofits standard mobile platforms into custom utility systems such as the Self Bunded Duro Service Trailer series.
  • Adapts generic chassis configurations to accommodate project-specific mining, agricultural, and civil engineering field specifications.

Installing componentry, seals, hardware, and operational mechanisms:

  • Calibrates and integrates mechanical peripheral systems including heavy-duty fluid pumps, high-capacity hose reels, automated fuel management hardware, safety doors, robust locks, and dual-containment rubber gasketing.
  • Lays internal pipe networks and connects fluid-transfer components seamlessly onto the finished transport structure.

Education and Experience:

  • An AQF Certificate III in Automotive Manufacturing, Engineering (Fabrication Trade), or an equivalent international qualification
  • Valid WA manual 'C' class driver's license.
  • At least 2 to 3 + years of verifiable full-time experience directly executing metal fabrication or vehicle body building duties.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven experience as a vehicle body builder.
  • Demonstrated capability to fabricate transport equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to pass regular industry standard drug and alcohol testing.
  • Positive attitude to work with the ability to work autonomously.
  • The ability to meet allocated timeframes on jobs.

Remuneration of $80,000 - $85,000 will be offered to the successful candidate.
