Thomson Automotive is seeking an experienced and highly organised Workshop Controller to join our Service Department.

This is a key leadership position responsible for the day-to-day performance of a state-of-the-art workshop and a team of up to 20 technicians.

You will be supported by a Quality Controller and apprentices who assist with daily operational tasks, allowing you to focus on managing workflow, technician performance, productivity and ensuring our workshop operates efficiently.

About the Role

As Workshop Controller, you will take responsibility for coordinating the daily workshop operation, including:

  • Leading and coordinating a team of up to 20 technicians
  • Allocating work based on technician skill level, capacity and job priority
  • Managing daily workshop workflow, productivity and efficiency
  • Monitoring jobs throughout the day to ensure promised completion times are achieved
  • Working closely with Service Advisors to communicate job progress and delays
  • Supporting technicians with technical and diagnostic issues
  • Ensuring additional work is identified and communicated promptly
  • Monitoring carry-over work and ensuring outstanding jobs are followed through
  • Working alongside our Quality Controller to maintain a high standard of workmanship
  • Utilising apprentices to assist with workshop operations and daily tasks
  • Coaching, supporting and developing technicians and apprentices
  • Maintaining a professional, organised and productive workshop environment
  • Assisting Service Management in achieving departmental productivity, profitability and customer satisfaction targets

About You

We are looking for someone who can confidently manage a large technical team while maintaining a positive and productive workshop culture.

Ideally, you will have previous experience as a Workshop Controller, Workshop Foreman, Leading Hand or Senior Technician, along with strong automotive technical knowledge.

You will need excellent organisational and communication skills, the ability to manage competing priorities and, importantly, the leadership skills to get the best performance from a large team.
