Fortune Development Group Pty Ltd undertakes building and property development projects throughout South Australia. We are seeking a qualified and experienced Painter to join our team and deliver high-quality painting and decorating work across our residential and commercial projects.

About the role

The Painter will prepare and finish internal and external surfaces in accordance with project drawings, specifications, manufacturer instructions and quality standards. The role requires sound trade knowledge, careful surface preparation and the ability to produce a consistent, durable and professional finish.

Key responsibilities

  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, colour schedules and work instructions.
  • Calculate paint and material requirements and select suitable products for each surface and application.
  • Set up work areas, erect ladders and restricted-height scaffolding where authorised, and protect floors, fixtures and adjoining surfaces with drop sheets and masking.
  • Remove old paint, wallpaper and damaged coatings and prepare surfaces by washing, scraping, sanding and cleaning.
  • Repair minor defects in walls, ceilings and woodwork by filling cracks, holes and joints, then smoothing and sealing prepared urfaces.
  • Mix and match paints to specified colours and prepare primers, sealers, paints, stains, varnishes, enamels and protective coatings.
  • Apply coatings using brushes, rollers and spray equipment to achieve even coverage and the specified finish.
  • Apply wallpaper and other decorative or protective finishes where required.
  • Inspect completed work, correct defects and complete touch-ups to meet project and client requirements.
  • Clean and maintain painting tools and equipment, manage materials responsibly and minimise waste.
  • Comply with Work Health and Safety requirements, site procedures and safe work practices at all times.
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors, builders, clients and other trades to complete projects safely and on schedule.

Qualifications and experience

  • AQF Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, or an equivalent recognised overseas qualification.
  • At least two years of relevant painting and decorating experience.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and painting interior and exterior building surfaces.
  • Competence using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders and relevant trade tools.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation, coating systems, colour matching and safe handling of materials.
  • Ability to read plans, follow specifications and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Current driver's licence and capacity to travel to project sites across metropolitan Adelaide and surrounding areas.
