Remuneration: AHP2 ($94,997 - $110,052) / PO2 ($94,769 - $109,787) plus 12% superannuation
We are seeking a Senior Social Worker or Senior Professional Officer to work 30 hours per week as a Family Based Post Care Practitioner.
Based in the Adelaide CBD, you will join our Carer Services directorate, supporting young people as they transition from care into adulthood. Working collaboratively, you will connect them with the support they need to build their capability and confidence, develop skills for independent living and work towards their goals. At this important transition point, you will provide tailored guidance and support to maintain the connections that contribute to their safety and wellbeing.
This role will suit someone who values relationship-based practice and can find practical solutions that reflect each person’s individual needs.
This is a single vacancy offered under a dual classification, meaning it may be filled by either a qualified Senior Social Worker (AHP2) or Senior Professional Officer (PO2), depending on the qualifications and suitability of the successful applicant.
Essential Qualification:
- AHP (Allied Health Professional) positions require applicants to hold a Social Work qualification and be eligible for full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- PO (Professional Officer) positions require relevant qualifications in Community Services, Social Sciences, Human Services, Health or other related fields.
Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
In this role, you will:
- Use your professional expertise across child protection, out-of-home care and post care to liaise with staff and clients
- Support families and carers to promote positive relationships and culturally appropriate care
- Consult with staff regarding program eligibility, guidelines, policies, procedures and legislation
- Provide information and training to staff about post care services and available supports
- Develop agreements with young people and their carers to support independent living skills within the family environment.
About you:
- You understand the child protection and out-of-home care sectors, and the needs of young people transitioning from care
- You bring experience undertaking assessments and finding practical solutions informed by best practice, policy and legislation
- You have strong written and communication skills, with the ability to clearly document sensitive information
- You recognise the issues impacting Aboriginal young people and families, including their over-representation in the care system
- You use professional judgement to respond to challenges, resolve issues and keep young people engaged.
