Role Overview

Reporting to the Training & Development Manager, the Technical Trainer plays a key role in building workforce capability through the development, delivery and assessment of technical training and competency programs. The role supports a safe, compliant and highly capable workforce across Pacific Energy's operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Verification of Competency (VoC) frameworks, assessment tools, standards and supporting documentation.
  • Design, develop and maintain technical training programs, learning resources and competency-based assessment materials.
  • Conduct workplace and VoC assessments to verify technical and safety competency across operations and projects.
  • Train, coach and support Workplace Assessors, Supervisors and Subject Matter Experts in competency assessment practices.
  • Partner with operational leaders to identify competency requirements and align training solutions to workforce capability needs.
  • Monitor, maintain and report on competency compliance, training effectiveness and organisational capability requirements.
  • Manage competency records, assessment evidence and training documentation to ensure audit readiness and compliance.
  • Review assessment outcomes, capability data and stakeholder feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.

About You

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in Verification of Competency (VoC), workplace assessment and competency management systems.
  • Experience developing and implementing competency frameworks, assessment tools and technical training programs within industrial, operational or safety-critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of competency assurance, compliance requirements and adult learning principles.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, coaching and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships across operational and corporate teams.
  • Experience within power generation, mining, energy, utilities, heavy industry or similar operational environments is highly regarded.
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to operational sites as required.
